How Much Does It Cost to Study Dentistry in Poland? 2026 Figures
06.09.2026
How much is tuition for English-taught dentistry in Poland in 2026?
Between 16,600 and 20,900 euros a year, or 65,000 to 80,000 zloty, for students entering in 2026/2027. The Medical University of Warsaw publishes the highest rate at 20,900 euros a year. Wroclaw Medical University publishes the lowest of the schools examined here, 65,000 zloty a year.
Two of the seven universities below bill in zloty, four in euros, and one, the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, bills in zloty but publishes its own indicative euro conversion. That conversion, 68,400 zloty shown as about 16,020 euros on its 2026/2027 fee page, implies roughly 4.27 zloty to the euro. Every euro figure converted from zloty here uses that rate. The same page states that payments are accepted only in zloty, so the euro column is a comparison aid.
| University | City | Annual tuition, 2026/2027 entry | Five-year total | Indicative euro total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wroclaw Medical University | Wroclaw | 65,000 PLN (rate published from 2023/2024, still the published rate in 2026) | 325,000 PLN | about 76,100 EUR |
| Medical University of Silesia in Katowice | Katowice, taught in Zabrze | 68,400 PLN (34,200 PLN per semester), 2026/2027 | 342,000 PLN | about 80,100 EUR |
| Medical University of Lodz | Lodz | 16,800 EUR in year one, 16,600 EUR in years two to five, from October 2026 | 83,200 EUR | 83,200 EUR |
| Jagiellonian University Medical College | Krakow | 17,000 EUR, years one to five, 2026/2027 (16,000 EUR in 2025/2026) | 85,000 EUR | 85,000 EUR |
| Poznan University of Medical Sciences | Poznan | 75,250 PLN in years one and two, 80,000 PLN in years three to five, from 2026/2027 | 390,500 PLN | about 91,450 EUR |
| Medical University of Warsaw | Warsaw | 20,900 EUR, years one to five, 2026/2027 | 104,500 EUR | 104,500 EUR |
| Medical University of Gdansk | Gdansk | No English-taught dentistry degree listed for 2026/2027 | — | — |
The Gdansk line surprises people. The University Admission Office of the Medical University of Gdansk lists five English-taught programmes for 2026/2027: the six-year Doctor of Medicine, the five-year Master of Pharmacy, the three-year Bachelor of Nursing, a two-year International Master in Sustainable Drug Discovery and a one-year premedical course. Dentistry is not among them. Gdansk still belongs in a Polish cost article, because it sets a useful benchmark for accommodation, but a candidate looking for an English-language dental degree there in 2026 will not find one. The English-taught dental programmes in Poland and elsewhere in Europe are listed on the universities overview.
Which Polish dental school is cheapest across the whole five years?
Wroclaw Medical University, at 325,000 zloty for the degree, roughly 76,100 euros. The Medical University of Warsaw is the most expensive at 104,500 euros. The gap is about 28,400 euros, more than a full year of tuition almost anywhere else on the list.
Annual rates hide two things. The first is escalation inside a single cohort. Poznan University of Medical Sciences charges 75,250 zloty in the first two years and 80,000 zloty in each of years three, four and five, so its published total of 390,500 zloty is not five times the first-year figure. The Medical University of Lodz does the opposite in miniature: 16,800 euros in year one, then 16,600 for the remaining four. The second is escalation between cohorts. Jagiellonian University Medical College charged 16,000 euros a year for dentistry in 2025/2026 and charges 17,000 in 2026/2027, a rise of 6.25 per cent in one admission cycle. Rates tend to be held for the cohort that entered on them. The rate quoted to the cohort behind you is a different number.
Wroclaw is the clearest case of a rate that has held: 65,000 zloty a year applying from 2023/2024 onward, up from 59,000 zloty for the 2019/2020 to 2022/2023 cohorts, and still published in 2026. The same page lists an 85 zloty recruitment fee and prices repeated coursework at 983 zloty per ECTS credit point.
What do dentistry students have to buy that medical students do not?
Hand instruments, a personal set of them, and they are the most under-budgeted item in every dental cost plan. A medical student buys a stethoscope. A dental student buys mirrors, probes, tweezers, excavators, scalers, curettes, elevators, forceps and modelling instruments, then buys some of them again when they dull or go missing.
Polish dental suppliers publish their prices, which makes this checkable. Instrumedic lists the four-piece diagnostic set that every student needs before the first practical class at 55 zloty including 8 per cent VAT in 2026. The Marrodent catalogue in 2026 spans 12.50 to 1,477 zloty across its hand instrument range: mirror handles at 29 to 149 zloty, probes at 17 to 190, scalers and curettes at 80 to 271, elevators at 139 to 230, basic extraction forceps at 145, needle holders at 180 to 420. Amadar prices the composite modelling sets that restorative courses increasingly expect at 1,438 zloty for the ArteSet Style Italiano XSi and 2,763 zloty for the LM Arte Dark Diamond Set Plus. A set of enlarged anatomical tooth models for morphology and carving exercises runs 800 zloty gross at the Polish supplier medyczny.eu in 2026.
None of those are university invoices. They are retail list prices, and a student buying carefully or in a group order with classmates will pay less. The shape of the spending matters more than any single figure: it starts small, it recurs, and it climbs as the curriculum moves from carving wax to preparing cavities to extracting teeth.
The phantom head itself is normally the university’s. Wroclaw Medical University publicised an investment in new phantom units and virtual-reality simulators for its dental faculty, reported by the Polish dental trade outlet Infodent24. What students supply is the consumable half: burs, matrices, composite, alginate, plaster, gloves, masks, safety glasses, scrubs and clinic shoes. Materials fees are sometimes bundled into tuition and sometimes not, and none of the seven fee pages here itemises them. Ask the faculty directly.
Loupes are the third category. Dental magnification is close to standard practice now, and students who buy early spend five years building the posture habits that come with them. The University of Portsmouth, which publishes a fully itemised additional-cost list for its 2026 and 2027 dental entry, classes dental loupes as an optional purchase rather than a required one, which is the fair way to describe them in Poland too. Polish suppliers such as Amadar stock a loupes category without publishing prices online, so no reliable Polish figure exists to quote. Plan for a real cost and do not treat a marketplace listing as the price of a working pair.
What does it cost to live in Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Wroclaw, Lodz and Gdansk?
Housing dominates. In the third quarter of 2026, the median asking rent for a studio ranged from 1,597 zloty a month in Lodz to 2,599 zloty in Warsaw, according to rental data published by PolandRent on 5 September 2026. Food, transport and phone costs are far more uniform across the six cities.
| City | Median studio rent, Q3 2026 | Median two-room flat, Q3 2026 | Published dormitory rates, 2026/2027 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warsaw | 2,599 PLN | 3,508 PLN | 410 to 1,300 PLN |
| Gdansk | 2,334 PLN | 2,942 PLN | 450 to 2,000 PLN |
| Wroclaw | 2,258 PLN | 2,852 PLN | 720 to 1,500 PLN |
| Krakow | 2,222 PLN | 2,880 PLN | 450 to 1,765 PLN |
| Poznan | 1,918 PLN | 2,563 PLN | 450 to 1,700 PLN |
| Lodz | 1,597 PLN | 2,137 PLN | not published in the 2026 comparison used here |
Rent figures are the third-quarter 2026 medians published by PolandRent on 5 September 2026, drawn from live listings; the Warsaw two-room median rests on 1,562 of them. Dormitory ranges come from the August 2026 comparison published by Munipro, which collected the 2026/2027 rates posted by universities in each city, the low end being shared rooms and the high end single rooms with private facilities. The Medical University of Gdansk sets the top of that city’s range at 2,000 zloty. Deposits of 500 to 1,190 zloty are normal, and some halls bill utilities separately.
For everything that is not rent, Statistics Poland is the authority. Its household budget survey put average monthly expenditure per capita at 2,015 zloty in 2025, against available income of 3,500 zloty. The 2024 edition broke that spending down: food and non-alcoholic beverages 25.3 per cent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels 18.8 per cent, transport 10.7 per cent, recreation and culture 6.9 per cent, health 5.6 per cent. Strip the housing share out of the 2025 total and roughly 1,636 zloty a month remains for everything else, which is what the worked example below uses. Poznan University of Medical Sciences, on its own dentistry cost page, estimates 800 to 1,600 US dollars a month including accommodation.
One caution about rent data. Otodom’s March 2026 figures, reported through the Global Property Guide, put the average asking rent in Warsaw at 4,807 zloty and the national average at 3,553 zloty, well above the medians above. Averages are pulled up by large and premium flats. Medians describe what a student actually rents.
What does a realistic five-year budget look like?
Here is one scenario worked through in full. Call it the Wroclaw budget: a student starting the English-language dental programme at Wroclaw Medical University in October 2026, living in a university dormitory for two years and sharing a two-room flat with one other student from year three.
| Line | Arithmetic | Five-year total |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition | 65,000 PLN × 5 years (Wroclaw Medical University rate, published from 2023/2024) | 325,000 PLN |
| Recruitment fee | 85 PLN, one off | 85 PLN |
| Dormitory, years 1–2 | 720 PLN × 10 months × 2 years (lowest published Wroclaw rate, 2026/2027) | 14,400 PLN |
| Shared flat, years 3–5 | 2,852 PLN median two-room rent ÷ 2 = 1,426 PLN × 12 months × 3 years | 51,336 PLN |
| Everything except housing | 2,015 PLN × 81.2% = 1,636 PLN × 60 months (Statistics Poland, 2025 spending, 2024 structure) | 98,160 PLN |
| Diagnostic set | four-piece set, Instrumedic list price 2026 | 55 PLN |
| Hand instruments over five years | about 20 instruments at an average 150 PLN, within the Marrodent 2026 range of 12.50 to 1,477 PLN | 3,000 PLN |
| Composite modelling set | ArteSet Style Italiano XSi, Amadar list price 2026 | 1,438 PLN |
| Anatomical tooth model set | medyczny.eu list price 2026, gross | 800 PLN |
| Total | 325,085 + 65,736 + 98,160 + 5,293 | 494,274 PLN, about 115,800 EUR |
That is 98,855 zloty a year, or about 8,238 zloty a month across sixty months. Tuition is 66 per cent of it, housing 13, everyday living 20. The dental kit, the part everyone worries about, is 1 per cent, and it is worth saying so plainly. What the kit does do is arrive in lumps, usually at the start of a semester, alongside a tuition instalment.
Swap Wroclaw for Warsaw and the tuition line alone moves from 325,000 zloty to 104,500 euros, roughly 446,200 zloty. Swap it for Lodz and both tuition and rent fall. The equipment line barely moves. It is the same instruments in every Polish dental faculty.
When does the money actually have to leave your account?
Not all at once, and not on the schedule most people assume. Universities split dental tuition into instalments and take a deposit long before the first lecture. Planning by season rather than by date is the honest way to do it, because the calendar differs by school and shifts between cycles.
Winter and early spring
Budget the whole five years, not the first. Language certificates and document translations start here. Application fees are small: the Medical University of Warsaw charges 20 to 24 euros, the Medical University of Lodz 24 euros, Wroclaw Medical University 85 zloty.
Late spring and summer
The confirmation deposit lands. The Medical University of Warsaw asks 1,000 euros, of which 500 is refundable on withdrawal before mid-July 2026. Poznan University of Medical Sciences takes a 4,800 zloty down payment as its first instalment.
Autumn
First tuition instalment, dormitory deposit of 500 to 1,190 zloty, first instrument purchases. Jagiellonian University Medical College splits its fee into two payments, the first in autumn.
Mid-winter and spring of year one
Second tuition instalment. Poznan spreads its first year across four payments running into the spring. Preclinical material costs build from here as phantom laboratory work begins.
Two structural points are easy to miss. Polish universities receive in zloty, so a student funding five years from a euro or pound account carries exchange risk across ten or more transfers; the Medical University of Lodz states outright that bank charges are the student’s and the full amount must arrive. Repeating coursework also costs money, priced by Wroclaw at 983 zloty per ECTS credit point.

What does a Polish dental degree let you do in the European Union?
It lets you register as a dentist in any other European Union or European Economic Area country without sitting a further professional examination. This is automatic recognition under Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications, and dentistry is one of the sectoral professions the directive treats this way, alongside medicine, nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, veterinary medicine and architecture.
The mechanism is worth understanding rather than taking on faith. The directive sets a minimum standard for basic dental training, at least five years of full-time theoretical and practical study at a university, then lists in Annex V the specific national diplomas that satisfy it. The Polish diploma in dentistry and the professional title of lekarz dentysta appear on that list. Because the qualification is listed, a host country’s competent authority may not reassess your curriculum. It checks identity, diploma, good standing and, where the profession requires it, language ability sufficient for practice. Language checks are legitimate under the directive and are where most delays occur.
What automatic recognition does not do is find you a job or exempt you from a country’s rules on continuing professional development, insurance or business registration. It removes the qualification barrier. The rest is administration, described by colleagues who have done it in the student stories.
How do you register as a dentist in the United Kingdom with a Polish degree?
Through the General Dental Council, the statutory regulator that keeps the dentists register for the United Kingdom. Since the United Kingdom left the European Union, the automatic route above no longer applies there, and the principal path for a dentist holding a qualification awarded outside the United Kingdom is the Overseas Registration Examination.
The examination has two parts. Part 1 is written and tests applied dental knowledge and clinical problem solving. Part 2 is practical, assessed on manikins and in simulated clinical stations, covering operative technique, communication and medical emergencies. Passing both leads to an application for full registration. Places are finite and released in scheduled sittings, so the planning horizon runs in years rather than months once the diploma is in hand. Fees and structure are set by the General Dental Council and have been revised more than once, so the current schedule on the regulator’s own site is the only figure worth acting on. Medschool Experts walks clients through the sequence as part of a free individual consultation.
What is the path to practising dentistry in the United States?
Different in kind, not just in paperwork. The United States does not recognise foreign dental degrees for licensure. State dental boards require a degree from a school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, and no Polish faculty holds that accreditation.
The route that works is the advanced standing programme, sometimes called an international dentist programme. A dentist holding a foreign dental degree enters an accredited United States dental school partway through its curriculum, typically for two to three years, and graduates with that school’s own Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine. Applications run through the centralised service operated by the American Dental Education Association, and the national board examination administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations sits alongside a clinical licensure examination accepted by the state you intend to practise in.
Cost is the real constraint. Advanced standing tuition at private United States dental schools sits in a different bracket entirely from Polish tuition, which is why the Polish degree is best understood as a European qualification with a United States option attached. The five years are not wasted in that scenario: they are the prerequisite that makes advanced standing possible, and they produce a clinician already licensable across the European Union while the American application runs. Medschool Experts maps that sequence through its placement services.
What do cost guides usually leave out?
Three things, consistently. The first is cohort escalation. Fee tables get published as though they were permanent, but Jagiellonian University Medical College’s own archive shows dentistry at 12,000 euros a year for first-year students in 2021/2022 and 17,000 in 2026/2027, a rise of 42 per cent across five admission cycles. Cohorts generally keep the rate they entered on, and the Medical University of Warsaw states explicitly that its 20,900 euro figure holds for years one to five of the 2026/2027 intake. Not every school words it that way. Read the sentence on the fee page of whichever university you are considering.
The second is the summer. Dormitory contracts commonly cover ten months, private tenancies twelve. A student who moves out of halls in year three quietly adds two months of rent a year, which in Wroclaw at the 2026 median is about 2,852 zloty of extra annual cost for a shared two-room flat.
The third is the difference between a dental and a medical curriculum, where this article started. Dentistry runs practical courses from early on, and practical courses consume materials, instruments and clinic time. A university that does not itemise a materials fee is not necessarily including it in tuition. Sometimes it simply expects students to buy what they need. Ask, in writing, before the first semester.
The author's view
I studied dentistry in Sofia between 2015 and 2021, and the line here I recognise most is the one about instruments arriving in lumps. Nobody warned me. Tuition I had planned to the last lev; the week before the first preclinical course, when the list of what I actually had to own turned up, I had not. It was not ruinous. It was a cost that appeared at the worst moment in the semester, and it repeated.
The second thing I would tell anyone weighing Wroclaw at 65,000 zloty against Warsaw at 20,900 euros is that the difference is real money but it is not the deciding factor. What decides is whether you can stand five years in that city, whether the phantom laboratory has enough units for the cohort, and how much chair time you get with real patients in years four and five. I have practised in Switzerland since qualifying and I am based in Bern. What I use every day came from the clinical years, not the lecture theatre.
The recognition point is the one I would underline hardest. My diploma travelled because European law says it travels, and that guarantee is the most valuable thing attached to a European dental degree. Choose the programme that will make you a competent clinician, budget honestly for all five years including the instruments, and let the directive do its work at the end.

- A fully worked five-year Wroclaw budget comes to 494,274 zloty, about 115,800 euros, of which tuition is 66 per cent and the dental kit 1 per cent.
- Directive 2005/36/EC gives the Polish dental qualification automatic recognition across the European Union and European Economic Area; the United Kingdom runs through the General Dental Council and the United States through an accredited advanced standing programme.
Conclusion
Poland prices an English-language dental degree between about 76,000 and 105,000 euros in tuition, and a full five-year budget in a mid-priced city lands near 115,000 euros once housing, food and instruments are counted. That number buys a qualification that is recognised automatically in twenty-nine other European countries the day it is awarded. Very few investments in professional education have a legal guarantee attached to the output.
Which university fits depends on the city you want to live in, the currency you earn in and the profile you bring. Requirements vary by university and by individual profile, so rather than guess, book a free consultation and Medschool Experts will assess your case directly.
Frequently Asked Questions about the Cost of Studying Dentistry in Poland
What is the total cost of an English-taught dentistry degree in Poland in 2026?
Published five-year tuition for 2026/2027 entry ranges from 325,000 zloty at Wroclaw Medical University, about 76,100 euros, to 104,500 euros at the Medical University of Warsaw. Adding housing, food, transport and dental instruments brings a realistic mid-range total to roughly 494,000 zloty, about 115,800 euros, based on a Wroclaw scenario using Statistics Poland 2025 spending data and third-quarter 2026 rents.
Is dentistry more expensive than medicine at Polish universities?
Usually yes, by a modest margin. The Medical University of Silesia in Katowice charges 68,400 zloty a year for dentistry in 2026/2027 against 65,500 zloty for medicine, a difference of 2,900 zloty. Dentistry runs for five years and medicine for six, so the six-year medical degree still costs more in total. Dentistry also carries instrument and materials costs that medicine does not.
What dental equipment do students in Poland have to buy themselves?
A personal set of hand instruments, built up over the five years. Polish supplier list prices in 2026 put a four-piece diagnostic set at 55 zloty, individual hand instruments between 12.50 and 1,477 zloty depending on type, a composite modelling set at 1,438 zloty and an anatomical tooth model set at 800 zloty. Phantom heads and simulator units belong to the university. Consumables, scrubs and clinic shoes are the student's.
Which Polish city is cheapest for a dental student?
Lodz, on the rent data. In the third quarter of 2026 its median studio asking rent was 1,597 zloty a month against 2,599 zloty in Warsaw, and its median two-room flat 2,137 zloty against 3,508 zloty. Non-housing costs vary far less: Statistics Poland's 2025 household budget survey put national average monthly expenditure per capita at 2,015 zloty across the country.
Can I work as a dentist anywhere in the European Union with a Polish degree?
Yes. Directive 2005/36/EC grants automatic recognition to dental qualifications listed in its Annex V, and the Polish diploma carrying the title lekarz dentysta is listed. A host country cannot reassess your curriculum. It verifies your diploma, identity and good standing, and may require proof of language ability sufficient for safe practice, which is where most of the processing time goes.
How do I register with the General Dental Council in the United Kingdom?
The main route for a dentist holding a non-United Kingdom qualification is the General Dental Council's Overseas Registration Examination. It has a written Part 1 covering applied dental knowledge and a practical Part 2 assessed on manikins and in simulated clinical stations. Sittings are scheduled and places limited, so plan in years. Fees and structure are set by the General Dental Council and should be confirmed on its own site.
Can I practise dentistry in the United States with a Polish dental degree?
Not directly. State licensure requires a degree from a school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, which no Polish faculty holds. The working route is an advanced standing programme of two to three years at an accredited United States dental school, applied for through the American Dental Education Association's centralised service, followed by board and state clinical examinations.
Does the Medical University of Gdansk offer dentistry in English?
No. Its University Admission Office listed five English-taught programmes for 2026/2027: the six-year Doctor of Medicine, the five-year Master of Pharmacy, the three-year Bachelor of Nursing, a two-year International Master in Sustainable Drug Discovery and a one-year premedical course. Dentistry was not among them. English-language dental places in Poland sit in Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Wroclaw, Lodz and Katowice.
