What is Final International University and which health programmes does it offer?

Final International University (FIU) is a private university in the Girne (Kyrenia) district of Northern Cyprus, founded in 2015. Its campus sits on Beşparmaklar Avenue in Çatalköy, east of Girne town. In 2026 it runs nine faculties, including a Faculty of Dentistry, a Faculty of Pharmacy and a Faculty of Health Sciences.

The English-taught Dentistry programme started in 2020, and a Turkish-taught track runs alongside it. According to the university's programme page, Dentistry is approved by YÖDAK, the TRNC higher education authority, and by YÖK, the Council of Higher Education in Turkey. In August 2021 the university opened a dental polyclinic in Ortaköy, Nicosia, which accepts patients.

Is a dentistry degree from Final International University recognised in 2026?

A dentistry degree from Final International University is recognised in Turkey and Northern Cyprus in 2026, where the Ministries of Health register the diplomas. Outside those two, recognition depends on your home country. Morocco has frozen equivalence since May 2024, and several Middle Eastern states were reported as non-recognising in 2020.

The reason is the status of the TRNC itself. Only Turkey recognises it as a state, and UN Security Council Resolution 541 (1983) described its declaration of independence as legally invalid. Ministries abroad therefore treat YÖDAK approval differently from an accreditation issued in a recognised state.

In Morocco, reporting by Morocco World News (March 2026) and Yabiladi (April and July 2026) puts the number of affected students and graduates at roughly 3,000 to 3,500. Families protested in Rabat in March 2026, outside parliament on 22 April 2026 and again at a sit-in in July. Talks about a solution were reported in July 2026. Nothing has been announced. The credential evaluator ACEI summed up the wider picture in June 2026: recognition "varies by country and institution".

What does this mean for dental students at Final International University?

For a dental student at Final International University, the recognition gap matters more than for most graduates, because dentistry is a regulated profession. Without a recognised diploma there is no licence, no registration and no practice. A business graduate can work around it. A dentist can't.

Timing adds pressure. Dentistry degrees approved by YÖK run over five years, and the later years are filled with patient treatment. The more clinical semesters you complete, the more of your training is tied to one diploma. Your passed preclinical courses are usually easiest to credit elsewhere while they are recent.

Ask yourself one question first: where do you want to treat patients?

If the answer is Morocco, Jordan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq or the United Arab Emirates, waiting for a policy change is a gamble with your licence. If it is a European Union country, a diploma from an EU university gives you the automatic recognition of dental qualifications under EU Directive 2005/36/EC. Northern Cyprus diplomas do not fall under that system. Note that the Republic of Cyprus in the south is an EU member state and a separate case.

Can you transfer from Final International University to a dental school in Europe?

Why are Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina closed to Final International University students?

Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are no longer an option for Final International University students in 2026. In our placement work this year, universities in both countries have accepted neither Northern Cyprus degrees nor transfer students from Northern Cyprus. There is no public decree behind this that we could cite.

For years both countries were a common route out of Northern Cyprus. That route is shut. Plans built on older advice can fail late, after time and money have already gone into an application. Check first.

Other universities in Europe still review applications from TRNC students individually. The choice has to match the country where you want to practise.

How much does it cost to keep studying dentistry at Final International University?

At Final International University, the 2025–2026 fee list shows a yearly Dentistry tuition fee of $22,200 at the standard rate and $11,100 with a 50% scholarship, plus $990 for registration, activity fees and VAT. At the ECB rate of 16 September 2026 (€1 = $1.1537), that is approx. €20,100 or €10,480 a year.

Take a worked example. A student with a 50% scholarship who has finished year 2 has three years left. That is approx. €31,440 in tuition and fees alone, before rent, food, flights and dental instruments. At the standard rate, the same three years come to approx. €60,300.

The money is only half of it. If your home country does not accept the diploma, those three years may buy a degree you cannot use there. A transfer also costs money, and fees at the receiving universities differ, so compare both paths in euros before you decide.

Which Final International University students should act now?

Students at Final International University should act now in 2026 if they plan to practise dentistry or pharmacy outside Turkey and Northern Cyprus. That applies most of all to Moroccan students, to students from countries reported as non-recognising, and to anyone still in the early or preclinical years.

• Moroccan dental and pharmacy students: the freeze has lasted since May 2024 without a published end date.
• Students from Jordan, Egypt, Iran, Iraq or the UAE: reports of non-recognition go back to 2020.
• Students in years 1 to 3: recent preclinical courses are usually easier to credit.
• Anyone aiming for the EU: an EU diploma gives you automatic recognition under Directive 2005/36/EC.
• Pharmacy students: Morocco's freeze covers pharmacy too, so the same reasoning applies.

If you plan to work only in Turkey, your situation is calmer. Still, check your long-term plans.
