Transfer from the Medical University of Lublin: Where to Continue Medicine or Dentistry in 2026

Transfer from the Medical University of Lublin: Where to Continue Medicine or Dentistry in 2026

Students at the Medical University of Lublin (Uniwersytet Medyczny w Lublinie) in Poland can transfer to another university and continue Medicine or Dentistry without starting from zero, and Medschool Experts organises that transfer from the first record check to the confirmed study place. The university in Lublin is one of Poland's established medical schools, with English-taught degrees for international students.

Plans change. Tuition charged in US dollars, one exam that does not click, a personal situation or a new career goal in the USA or Germany can each make a different university the better fit for the remaining years.

Medschool Experts is the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, with the world's largest choice of official partner universities. That breadth is what makes a well-matched move from Lublin possible.

Last reviewed: September 2026.

What is the Medical University of Lublin and what does it teach in English?

The Medical University of Lublin is a public medical university in Lublin, eastern Poland. It began in 1944 as the medical faculty of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, became the independent Medical Academy in 1950 and received university status and its current name in 2008. For 2026/2027 it teaches Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Midwifery in English.

Two programmes matter here. Medicine at the Medical University of Lublin lasts six years (12 semesters, 360 ECTS) and leads to the MD title (lekarz). Dentistry lasts five years (10 semesters, 300 ECTS) and leads to the DDS title (lekarz-dentysta). According to the university's admission website for 2026/2027, the English-taught tracks are open to candidates who are not Polish citizens.

Lublin itself is a large university city with a Renaissance old town and several universities. Our own overview of programmes, living costs and the city is on the Medical University of Lublin page.

Can you transfer from the Medical University of Lublin to another university?

Yes. Students of Medicine and Dentistry at the Medical University of Lublin in Poland can transfer to another university and have their passed courses credited. Medschool Experts, the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, organises the move to a matching partner university in 2026.

Credit transfer runs on your transcript. Every passed course, with its hours and ECTS credits, is compared with the curriculum of the target university. Poland uses ECTS throughout, which makes that comparison clear and fast.

So the real question is a different one. Where does your record fit best, and how high can you enter there? Because Medschool Experts works with the world's largest choice of official partner universities, we do not squeeze your record into one school. We look for the place where it counts the most. An overview of what we do is on our services page.

Why do students transfer from the Medical University of Lublin?

Students leave the Medical University of Lublin for five recurring reasons: lower total costs, an exam format that suits them better, personal or organisational circumstances, a career goal in the USA, or a career goal in Germany. Each reason is a question of fit and planning, and each one points to a different kind of target university.

  • Costs. For 2026/2027 the university lists tuition for six-year Medicine at 9,120 US dollars per semester. Across the full degree, plus rent and food, that is a large sum. Some families prefer a more affordable university for the remaining years.
  • Exam fit. Some students get stuck on one or two specific exams. A university whose exam format and pace suit them better can change the outcome completely. This is one of our specialisms.
  • Personal or organisational reasons. Difficulties with individual professors, family matters, health or the distance from home can make it hard to continue, whatever the quality of the university.
  • A career in the USA. Students aiming for the USMLE, US clinical rotations and a US residency may prefer a school built around that path.
  • A career in Germany. Students who want to work in Germany may prefer a university that prepares well for German clinical practice, including a final year in Germany.

None of these reasons is a verdict on Lublin. They are planning decisions. A student who is doing well in Lublin and happy with the costs has every reason to stay.

Where can Medical University of Lublin students transfer to?

Medical University of Lublin students can transfer to affordable partner universities such as the Faculty of Medicine Foča in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to universities with a better exam fit, to Mostar School of Medicine or Caribbean medical schools for a US career, and to Foča or the Medical University of Varna in Bulgaria for a German career.

Lower costs. The Faculty of Medicine Foča of the University of East Sarajevo charges €3,500 tuition per year, and the total with living costs comes to about €7,500 per year (Medschool Experts figures, 2026). It is one of many affordable partner universities in our network.

The USA. Mostar School of Medicine in Bosnia and Herzegovina is the only European university that specifically prepares students for the USMLE, both Step 1 (preclinical) and Step 2 CK (clinical). Teaching happens in small groups, with a better teacher-to-student ratio than other European medical schools, and there are only 30 places per year. Medschool Experts places students there reliably without an entrance test, as long as our own quota allows. Caribbean medical schools are the other route. They are built to lead students into US clinical rotations and residency.

Germany. The Medical University of Varna in Bulgaria, an EU university, prepares especially well for a German career. Through Medschool Experts, Varna students can complete their final year (the practical year, PJ) in Germany. The same is possible from Foča.

These are examples. The full list is on our universities page, and the wider picture for Poland is in our guide to transferring from Poland.

How much can a Medical University of Lublin student save by transferring?

A Medicine student at the Medical University of Lublin who moves to the Faculty of Medicine Foča in Bosnia and Herzegovina can save roughly €13,100 to €15,500 per year in 2026. Lublin tuition is about €15,810 per year plus €400 to €600 in monthly living costs, while Foča totals about €7,500 per year.

Here is where those figures come from. The Medical University of Lublin lists 9,120 US dollars per semester for six-year Medicine and 9,650 US dollars per semester for five-year Dentistry in 2026/2027. At the European Central Bank reference rate of 16 September 2026 (1 euro = 1.1537 US dollars), that is about €15,810 per year for Medicine and about €16,730 per year for Dentistry. Medschool Experts estimates living costs in Lublin at €400 to €600 per month (2026).

Lublin tuition: university fee list 2026/2027 (US dollars, converted at the ECB rate of 16 September 2026, 1 € = 1.1537 USD). Lublin living costs €400–600 per month and Foča figures: Medschool Experts, 2026.

Worked example (2026 figures). A Medicine student with three years left in Lublin pays about €20,610 to €23,010 per year. At Foča the same three years cost about €7,500 per year. The difference is roughly €39,300 to €46,500 over three years. A Dentistry student with two years left saves about €28,000 to €32,900.

Exchange rates move. Because Lublin charges in US dollars, the euro amount can shift from semester to semester.

Money is not the only factor. Still, for many families these numbers decide whether the degree can be finished calmly.

Which year can you enter after leaving the Medical University of Lublin?

There is no fixed maximum year for students leaving the Medical University of Lublin. Medschool Experts reviews every academic record individually and aims for the highest possible entry with no or minimal loss of time. High placements, often into year 4 or year 5, are frequent outcomes of transfers organised in 2026.

A rule of thumb helps with expectations. Usually no more than two exams may be outstanding, and the ECTS credits of those exams must stay below a maximum. Course content and hours count as well as course titles, and completed clinical rotations count too.

Timing matters. A student who asks early gives us more partner universities to compare and more room to close gaps before the switch.

Is a Medical University of Lublin degree recognised, and what changes after a transfer?

A Medicine or Dentistry degree from the Medical University of Lublin is an EU qualification, because Poland has been a member of the European Union since 2004. Such degrees fall under EU Directive 2005/36/EC. After a transfer, recognition depends on the country of the new university, so the target should match where you want to work.

Inside the EU, the directive provides for the automatic recognition of medical and dental qualifications. Registration in a specific country still involves national steps, such as proof of language skills. Students who want to keep an EU degree can move to an EU partner university such as the Medical University of Varna.

Outside the EU, rules differ. Graduates of non-EU universities who want to practise in Germany go through an individual equivalence review by the competent state authority, which can include a knowledge exam. Foča prepares especially well for that German path, and its final year can be completed in Germany through Medschool Experts.

For the USA, every graduate of a school outside the United States needs to pass the USMLE. That is why Mostar School of Medicine and Caribbean medical schools are the natural options for this goal. Anyone planning to work outside the EU should confirm the current rules with the authority of the target country.

When should Medical University of Lublin students start planning a transfer?

Medical University of Lublin students should start planning a transfer as early as possible, ideally several months before the next academic year begins. Early planning gives Medschool Experts more partner universities to compare, more time to prepare for open exams and a better chance of the highest possible entry year in 2026 or 2027.

Three moments are typical starting points:

  • After a failed exam, before the next attempt decides a whole year.
  • When the family budget changes, ideally before the next semester fee is due.
  • When your career goal becomes clear, for example the USA or Germany.

Waiting rarely helps. A short conversation costs nothing and shows you what is possible. Book your free consultation and we will check your profile against our partner network.

The author's view

I studied dentistry in English at the Medical University of Sofia from 2015 to 2021, and I started at 24, later than most of my classmates. I know what it means to build a medical degree abroad, far from home, with every semester carefully budgeted. Today I am a federally recognised dentist in Switzerland and the founder of Medschool Experts, and we have placed more than 500 students.

When a student from the Medical University of Lublin contacts me, my first question is where they want to be in five years. Lublin gives students a solid foundation. Sometimes a different university simply fits the next part of the journey better, whether that is about costs, exams or a career in the USA or Germany. A transfer is a planning decision. Made early, it rarely costs time.

  • Medicine and Dentistry students at the Medical University of Lublin can transfer to another university and keep their passed courses.
