The city as a place to study
Tbilisi is one of the oldest cities in Europe and Georgia's capital — a city of around 1.2 million people set alongside the Mtkwari River with a historic fortress overlooking the city. It blends centuries of architecture, a thriving creative scene and a welcoming cosmopolitan atmosphere.
For international students, Tbilisi offers a high quality of life at very low cost. English is spoken in many settings, particularly in university neighbourhoods, restaurants and tourist areas. The metro, bus network and affordable taxis make the city easy to navigate.
Tbilisi is generally considered safe, with low crime and famously warm Georgian hospitality. Living costs — approximately 500 to 750 EUR per month — are among the lowest of any accessible European-adjacent city.
