Short answer

ADAM University accreditation 2026: the School of Medicine did not pass state accreditation, licence revoked. Status, credits, visa and transfer options for MBBS students.

ADAM University accreditation is one of the most searched questions among medical students in Bishkek this autumn. The reason is simple. In May 2026 the School of Medicine did not pass Kyrgyzstan's new state accreditation, and the licence for medical education was revoked.

If you study medicine at ADAM University, your degree is not lost. Your passed subjects count, the state is moving about 5,500 students to accredited universities, and you can also continue at a medical faculty in another country.

Study transfers are our daily work. Here we explain what happened at ADAM University, what it means for your MBBS, your study year and your visa, and which steps make sense now.

Last reviewed: October 2026.

What happened

To understand the ADAM University accreditation result, look at the rules first. On 28 August 2025 the President of Kyrgyzstan signed Decree No. 250 and made the training of doctors and pharmacists a state monopoly. Law No. 6 of 23 January 2026 added a state accreditation for all medical educational organisations.

From there things moved fast. The standards appeared on 16 April 2026, and the assessments took place in May. The association of private medical universities asked for a six-month extension. It was not granted. The Ministry of Health checked teaching staff, clinical training bases, equipment, study programmes and the organisation of teaching.

ADAM University accreditation 2026: from the decree to the student transfers.

On 4 June 2026 the ministry published the outcome. 34 institutions in Kyrgyzstan offer medical programmes, and 24 of them had applied. Four received accreditation for six years, seven for one year. Thirteen did not pass. ADAM University, a private university in Bishkek formerly known as the Bishkek Academy of Finance and Economics, was one of them. Its School of Medicine teaches General Medicine in English, mainly to international students.

The same list names Avicenna International Medical University, Royal Metropolitan University, Altamimi International University, Ala-Too International University, International Medical University, the Kyrgyz Medical and Dental Institute, Salymbekov University, Eurasian International University, Bishkek International Medical Institute, the International University of Medicine and Science, Central Asian International Medical University and Osh International Medical University.

Licence and diplomas

Can ADAM University still teach medicine? No. The institutions that did not pass may not admit new medical students or issue state diplomas, and their licences for medical education were revoked. The Ministry of Health stated that classes may not be held from 15 September 2026 and that tuition for the new academic year may not be charged.

A return is possible in principle, with a new licence and a new accreditation. There is no date for it. We would not build a study plan on that hope. Build it on your transcript, which records every subject you passed.

Student transfer 2026

Since August 2026 the Ministry of Health has been moving students centrally. 7,137 students were enrolled at the thirteen institutions. 1,637 graduated this year, so about 5,500 need a new place.

By 11 September 2026, 3,391 had been transferred. Two numbers deserve attention. 242 students were expelled because of academic debts. And 1,867 foreign students had an assigned place but were outside Kyrgyzstan and could not begin. If that is you, speak to your assigned institution before you travel.

Credits and study year

Will you lose a year after leaving ADAM University? In most cases, no. The transfer commission decided that a lower year is not allowed without good reason. Small curriculum differences are made up while you stay in your year. Only with large differences is a lower year offered.

Abroad, each faculty decides on its own. It compares your transcript with its curriculum, subject by subject. European faculties work with ECTS, 60 credits per year, so hours and content must be documented clearly. Failed an exam at ADAM University? Passed subjects still count, and open ones can be clarified.

Student visa

For transfers inside Kyrgyzstan, the receiving university handles the visa. For a faculty in another country you apply for a residence permit there. We schedule the steps so that no gap opens between the two.

Transfer abroad

A transfer from ADAM University to a medical school in another country is possible. English-taught medical faculties in Europe and other regions accept transfer students and set the entry year from the transcript. A degree from a medical faculty in the EU is recognised across the EU under Directive 2005/36/EC, and tuition at English-taught European faculties starts at about €3,500 per year.

The right option depends on your record, your budget and your career plans. Book a free transfer consultation and we will tell you which options are realistic.

Documents

Collect your papers first. You need the official transcript with subjects, hours and grades, the syllabus of your passed subjects, a confirmation of your enrolment period, your school-leaving certificate and your passport.

The transfer is free of charge, as the Ministry of Health confirmed, and academic documents must be issued in line with Kyrgyz law. Ask in writing and keep copies.

NMC and PMDC

Indian students at ADAM University should know the National Medical Commission's 2021 licentiate regulations. They expect the medical course to be completed at one institution. Where students had to leave for reasons outside their control, the commission has issued specific guidance in the past. Check the current position for Kyrgyzstan before you choose.

Students from Pakistan should confirm with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council that the receiving institution is accepted.

Timeline

Inside Kyrgyzstan the ministry sets the deadlines. Abroad, plan three to six months from the first consultation to the first lecture. Several faculties take transfer students in autumn and again in February.

The author's view

I began my own studies abroad at 24, in Sofia, in 2015. Starting late made me careful with time, and I remember how every semester felt like something I could not afford to lose.

That is the worry I hear from ADAM University students now. The good news is that the transfer commission in Kyrgyzstan took the same view: no lower year without good reason. And faculties abroad look at what you passed, not at what happened to your old institution.

Since December 2023 I have run Medschool Experts from Bern. My team and I have placed more than 500 students. If you are unsure which route to take, ask us before you sign anything.

Summary

  • ADAM University did not pass Kyrgyzstan's state accreditation of medical schools in May 2026 and is not accredited for medicine.
  • The licence for medical education was revoked: no MBBS admissions, no state diplomas in medicine, no classes since 15 September 2026.
  • About 5,500 students nationwide are being transferred free of charge.
  • Students keep their study year unless the curricula differ substantially.
  • A transfer abroad is possible, and Medschool Experts advises free of charge.

Conclusion

Medical teaching at ADAM University has stopped. Your studies have not. What you passed can be carried to an accredited university in Kyrgyzstan or to a faculty in another country.

Frequently asked questions

Is ADAM University accredited in 2026?

Not for medicine. ADAM University did not pass Kyrgyzstan's state accreditation of medical schools in May 2026. The result was announced on 4 June 2026, and the licence for medical education was revoked.

Is the ADAM University School of Medicine closed?

Medical teaching has stopped. Since 15 September 2026 no medical classes may be held and no new medical students admitted. A return requires a new licence and a new accreditation.

Are other faculties of ADAM University affected?

The 2026 state accreditation covers medical educational programmes. This page deals with the School of Medicine only.

Is a medical degree from ADAM University still valid?

The decision concerns teaching and state diplomas from 2026 onward. How an authority abroad treats an earlier diploma is decided by that authority. We can check your case in a free consultation.

Where are ADAM University medical students transferred?

To universities in Kyrgyzstan that passed state accreditation, by order of the Ministry of Health. A medical faculty in another country is the second option.

Do I lose a year if I transfer from ADAM University?

Usually not. The transfer commission ruled out a lower year without good reason. A faculty abroad decides after comparing your transcript.

Can I transfer with failed exams or academic debts?

In many cases, yes. Passed subjects keep their value. Clarify open exams quickly: 242 students nationwide were expelled for academic debts during the transfer.

Can Indian students continue their MBBS after the decision?

Yes, at another university. The National Medical Commission expects the course to be completed at one institution, so check its current position for Kyrgyzstan first.

Is the transfer free of charge?

The state transfer inside Kyrgyzstan is free, and so is the first consultation with Medschool Experts.
