How much does an English-taught veterinary degree cost per academic year in Poland and the Czech Republic in 2026?

In 2026 the English-taught veterinary degree costs EUR 7,600 per academic year at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Veterinary Sciences Brno in the Czech Republic, EUR 8,000 at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, PLN 40,000 (about EUR 9,167) at Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, and EUR 10,900 at Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) in Poland. Brno is the cheapest.

Warsaw University of Life Sciences publishes its 2026/2027 rate as EUR 5,450 per semester on its own study fees page, Lublin publishes EUR 4,000 per semester, and Wrocław publishes PLN 20,000 per semester plus a one-off application fee of PLN 85. The Brno figure appears on the Czech government's Study in Czechia portal, which lists the programme in English at EUR 7,600 a year over a standard length of six to seven years.

Which veterinary faculties in Poland and the Czech Republic hold EAEVE accreditation in 2026, and since when?

On the EAEVE establishments status list updated after the ECOVE meeting of 27 May 2026, Lublin, Olsztyn and Wrocław in Poland hold Accreditation, and Warsaw holds Pending Accreditation, decided in May 2026 after a visitation in March 2026. In the Czech Republic both faculties at the University of Veterinary Sciences Brno, veterinary medicine and veterinary hygiene, hold Accreditation decided in December 2023.

The list records three dates for each establishment: when the ESEVT visitation took place, when the ECOVE committee decided, and when the status lapses. Wrocław has the longest runway. Its visitation was in May 2025, the decision came in September 2025, and the status runs to May 2032.

Why does EAEVE status decide where a Polish or Czech veterinary degree can be used?

EAEVE status matters for a veterinary degree from Poland or the Czech Republic because it is the one pan-European statement that a faculty's teaching, caseload and facilities were inspected against a published standard. EAEVE defines Accreditation as no major deficiencies found, Pending Accreditation as one or several major deficiencies, and Non-Accreditation as several. The list is public.

Pending Accreditation does not remove a degree's legal standing. Inside the European Union a veterinary qualification is recognised through Directive 2005/36/EC and the national veterinary register of the country where you want to work, not through EAEVE. What the status changes is how easily the degree travels outside that automatic system, where regulators and employers read the EAEVE list as the shorthand for an inspected school. A pending faculty has a defined window to close the deficiencies. Warsaw's runs to March 2028.

How many years must a veterinary degree last under European Union law?

European Union law sets a minimum of five years for veterinary training. Article 38(1) of Directive 2005/36/EC requires that admission to veterinary training be followed by at least five years of full-time theoretical and practical study at a university or at a higher institute providing training recognised as being of an equivalent level. That floor is a minimum.

Poland builds the degree as eleven semesters, five and a half years. The Czech programme at Brno runs six years, which is a full additional year of tuition and rent. This is why the lowest annual fee is not automatically the lowest total.

What does it cost to live in Warsaw, Lublin, Wrocław and Brno as a veterinary student in 2026?

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Brno publishes the only complete monthly budget of the four cities: EUR 591 a month in 2026, made up of EUR 230 for a dormitory place, EUR 120 food, EUR 11 city transport, EUR 40 beer, EUR 40 coffee and cake, EUR 50 culture and sport, EUR 80 trips and EUR 20 reserve. The Polish faculties publish accommodation only. A dormitory place saves most.

Lublin's rates for 2025/2026 run from PLN 650 a month for a place in a double room, which the university itself puts at about EUR 150, to PLN 1,400 for an enlarged single room, about EUR 320. Wrocław states EUR 90 to EUR 150 a month, depending on how many students share and on the standard of the room. Warsaw University of Life Sciences sets its residence rates by SGGW Rector's Circular Letter No. 7/2025 of 11 September 2025, effective from 1 October 2025.

Which costs are specific to veterinary study and not to medicine or dentistry?

Three cost lines are specific to veterinary study in Poland and the Czech Republic in 2026: a personal instrument and clothing kit, compulsory placements away from the faculty, and the travel and lodging those placements need. None of the four faculties publishes a price for any of the three, so the figures in the box below are planning estimates rather than published fees.

The kit is the predictable part. A dissection set, a stethoscope, a thermometer, bandage scissors, two or three sets of scrubs, a laboratory coat, coveralls for farm work, rubber boots and a hoof knife are personal property in a veterinary curriculum, not shared teaching stock. Boots are personal. Farm clothing wears out faster than clinic clothing, so the replacement line does not disappear after year one.

Placement cost depends on where the placement is. Wrocław allows most of the practical training to be completed outside the university, so a student who goes home for the summer pays nothing in travel. A student who takes a farm placement two hours from the faculty pays fares, and sometimes a bed.

How many weeks of compulsory placement does each faculty require, and who pays for them?

Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) requires fourteen weeks of compulsory practice across the English-taught veterinary programme: two weeks of husbandry practice at 80 hours, two weeks of veterinary inspection at 80 hours taken twice, and four weeks of clinical practice at 160 hours taken twice. Wrocław requires twelve weeks and 560 hours. The student carries the cost.

Wrocław splits its 560 hours into two months in clinics, two weeks on farms and two weeks in food production and food safety, placed in the final years of the programme after four years of mostly theoretical teaching. The university states that most of these placements may be done wherever the student chooses, at home or through Erasmus+ among other routes. Lublin runs obligatory clinical practice alongside its clinical subjects, on a campus with eight surgical theatres covering small animals, farm animals, ophthalmology and dentistry.

What does the full programme cost from first semester to diploma?

A full English-taught veterinary degree in the Czech Republic costs about EUR 81,000 in published tuition plus published living costs. At Brno that is EUR 45,600 of tuition over six years, plus EUR 35,460 of living costs taking the faculty's own EUR 591 a month over ten months a year for six years. Poland at Lublin prices comes out lower. Length drives the difference.

The Lublin worked example: EUR 44,000 of tuition over eleven semesters, plus a dormitory place at PLN 650 a month, about EUR 149, over 55 months, which is EUR 8,195. Lublin publishes no figure for food, transport and everyday spending, so this example applies Brno's published non-accommodation total of EUR 361 a month as a transparent stand-in rather than as a Lublin figure. Over 55 months that is EUR 19,855. Tuition and living together reach about EUR 72,050.

Warsaw's tuition alone is EUR 59,950 over eleven semesters, EUR 15,950 above Lublin's, and Wrocław's is PLN 220,000, about EUR 50,418 at the September 2026 rate. Carrying the same monthly living figure across to the Polish cities and adding the kit from the planning estimates above, a realistic all-in total for any of the four faculties sits between roughly EUR 73,000 and EUR 95,000. Each university sets its fee level annually, so the later semesters are priced in decisions not yet taken.

When should you plan and pay, month by month?

The payment calendar for a veterinary place in Poland or the Czech Republic runs about twelve months. Tuition is billed per semester in Poland and per year in the Czech Republic, and Brno accepts its fee in full before the academic year begins or in up to four instalments. Warsaw, Lublin and Wrocław all start teaching on 1 October.

What is not on the faculty price lists?

Four things sit outside the published fee tables and change the real cost of a veterinary degree in Poland or the Czech Republic. Currency movement is the first. Wrocław bills in zloty, so a student earning in euro carries zloty risk for eleven semesters, while Warsaw, Lublin and Brno bill in euro, which moves the same risk onto a student earning in zloty or koruna.

The second is programme length: Brno's sixth year is roughly EUR 5,900 of extra living cost at the faculty's own monthly figure. The third is Poznań University of Life Sciences, which has a Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science but offers in English the Animal Production Management master's, at EUR 1,200 per semester for the first three semesters and EUR 850 for the fourth, rather than the long-cycle veterinary degree. Poznań is also absent from the EAEVE status list of May 2026.

The fourth is the number Brno does not publish itself. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine states that it charges no entry or registration fee, sets the admission fee at CZK 0, and takes tuition before the academic year begins or in up to four instalments, but it does not put the amount on its own admission pages. The EUR 7,600 comes from the Czech government's Study in Czechia portal. Ask the faculty to confirm it in writing before you transfer anything.
