What happened
The Royal Metropolitan University accreditation result is part of a national reform. With Decree No. 250 of 28 August 2025, the President of Kyrgyzstan placed the training of doctors and pharmacists under a state monopoly. Law No. 6 of 23 January 2026 then required every medical school to pass a state accreditation.
The standards were published on 16 April 2026, and the assessments followed in May. That left little time. Private medical universities asked for six more months through their association, without success. The Ministry of Health assessed teaching staff, clinical training bases, equipment, study programmes and the organisation of teaching.
The ministry announced the results on 4 June 2026. Of 34 institutions with medical programmes, 24 applied. Four were accredited for six years, seven for one year, and thirteen did not pass. Royal Metropolitan University, a private university in Bishkek with an English-taught medical programme for mainly international students, is on that list.
So are Avicenna International Medical University, ADAM University, Altamimi International University, Ala-Too International University, International Medical University, the Kyrgyz Medical and Dental Institute, Salymbekov University, Eurasian International University, Bishkek International Medical Institute, the International University of Medicine and Science, Central Asian International Medical University and Osh International Medical University.
Licence and diplomas
Is Royal Metropolitan University closed? For medicine, effectively yes. The institutions that did not pass lost the right to admit new medical students and to issue state diplomas. Their licences were revoked. From 15 September 2026 they may not hold classes, and they may not charge tuition for the new academic year.
A new licence and a new accreditation could change that one day. When, nobody knows. Your transcript is the solid ground here: what you passed is on record.
Student transfer 2026
The centralised transfer has been running since August 2026. 7,137 students were enrolled at the thirteen institutions, 1,637 of them graduated this year, and about 5,500 are being moved.
3,391 had a new university by 11 September 2026. 242 students were expelled because of academic debts. Another 1,867 foreign students were assigned a place but could not start because they were abroad. If you are among them, contact your assigned institution before you fly back.
Credits and study year
Do Royal Metropolitan University students lose a year? As a rule, no. The transfer commission decided that a lower year needs a good reason. With minor curriculum differences you stay in your year and catch up on what is missing. A lower year is offered only when the gap is large.
A faculty abroad compares your transcript with its own curriculum and sets the entry year itself. In Europe that comparison runs in ECTS, 60 credits per year. A failed exam at Royal Metropolitan University does not rule out a transfer, since passed subjects keep their value.
Student visa
The receiving university in Kyrgyzstan deals with the visa of transferred foreign students. If you move to another country, you need its residence permit. We plan the dates with you so that your status is continuous.
Transfer abroad
You can transfer from Royal Metropolitan University to a medical school in another country. English-taught medical faculties in Europe and other regions accept transfer students. A degree from a medical faculty in the EU is recognised throughout the EU under Directive 2005/36/EC. Tuition at English-taught European faculties starts at about €3,500 per year.

Documents
You need the official transcript with subjects, hours and grades, the syllabus of the passed subjects, a confirmation of your enrolment period, your school-leaving certificate and your passport.
The Ministry of Health confirmed that the transfer is free of charge and that academic documents must be issued in line with Kyrgyz law. Request them in writing, today if you can.
NMC and PMDC
For Indian students the National Medical Commission matters. Its 2021 licentiate regulations expect the medical course to be completed at one institution. For students who had to leave a university for reasons outside their control, the commission has issued specific guidance in the past. Check the current position for Kyrgyzstan before choosing.
Students from Pakistan should confirm with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council that the receiving institution is accepted.
Timeline
The state transfer follows the ministry's deadlines. A transfer abroad takes three to six months from the first consultation. Several faculties admit transfer students in autumn and in February.

The author's view
During my six years in Sofia, from 2015 to 2021, the university was the fixed point of my life abroad. I can imagine what it means when that fixed point disappears within one summer.
What I tell students of Royal Metropolitan University: separate the institution from your own record. The ministry's decision is about staff, clinics and equipment. Your transcript is about you, and it travels.
My team and I have placed more than 500 students at medical faculties. Send us your transcript and we will tell you plainly what is possible.
