Clinical clerkships abroad are almost always a good idea — and almost always badly organised. I know plenty of students who spent three weeks getting in the way because nobody was responsible for them and nobody spoke their language. That is why two things mattered to me in this cooperation: a hospital with international accreditation, and a training structure that deserves the name.

The language point is the most underrated of them all. English as the working language throughout means you can genuinely think along on ward rounds instead of merely listening. Anyone studying in English through us can make use of such a rotation from day one.

And on recognition, I tell everyone the same thing. A rotation abroad has to be approved beforehand, not submitted afterwards. For the final practical year the state examination office decides, and it does not like doing so retroactively. We settle that in advance, because otherwise it becomes the most expensive experience of an entire degree.

Who is the partner?

The Lanka Hospitals Corporation PLC in Colombo, Sri Lanka — a tertiary care hospital with around 350 beds, accredited to the Joint Commission International standard since 2014 and the first hospital in the country to hold that accreditation. Placements run through the hospital's own Training Academy.

Which rotations can be completed there?

Internships, clinical clerkships, nursing placements and rotations of the final practical year.

What language is the work done in?

Entirely in English — with colleagues just as much as with patients. In Sri Lanka, English is the working language of the healthcare system.

Are the rotations recognised in Germany?

Clinical clerkships and nursing placements may be completed abroad under the German Medical Licensing Regulations; what matters is that the institution is under medical management and that the activity is certified. For the final practical year, the responsible state examination office decides on recognition. We clarify the approval before the placement starts, not afterwards.

Is there a certificate?

Yes. On completion, participants receive a certificate from the hospital group.

What does taking part cost?

We are happy to share the current terms on request. This cooperation is explicitly designed to keep the stay affordable.

Who can take part?

Students placed through Medschool Experts. Which rotations make sense and can be approved in an individual case is something we clarify in a free consultation.
