Medschool Experts and the International University of Sarajevo enter an official partnership — focus on dentistry with a dual degree in Bosnia and Turkey.
What has been agreed?
Medschool Experts and the International University of Sarajevo have signed an official partnership agreement. The contract was concluded in Sarajevo. Under it, Medschool Experts takes on the recruitment and support of suitable applicants for the university's programmes.
The focus is on dentistry. Beyond that, Medschool Experts also places students in other programmes at the university, for example in engineering, the natural sciences and business. Human medicine is not offered at IUS.
Which countries are candidates recruited from?
The agreement covers seven target markets: the United Arab Emirates, Libya, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Turkey and England.
The partnership therefore serves three very different applicant groups: the German-speaking and Scandinavian region, where places in dentistry are scarce and admission hurdles are high; the Arab world, with its strongly growing demand for English-taught degree programmes in Europe; and Turkey, together with the Turkish diaspora in Europe, for whom this location holds something special.
Why is this location particularly interesting for applicants of Turkish origin?
Because the dentistry programme at IUS leads to a dual degree that is recognised in Turkey and in Europe alike.
The structure comes in two parts: students complete the preclinical phase in Sarajevo and the clinical phase in Istanbul. The programme runs as a dual-degree programme of IUS together with the University of Health Sciences (Sağlık Bilimleri Üniversitesi) in Istanbul. Those who complete it end up holding a degree that opens both labour markets.
For families with Turkish ties whose children grew up in Germany, Sweden, Norway or England, this is a rare combination: an education in English, with clinical experience in a city of 16 million people — and without having to commit to a single country early on.
Key facts about the dentistry programme
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Degree programme | Dentistry (Dental Medicine) |
| Duration | 6 years, 12 semesters, 360 ECTS |
| Language of instruction | English |
| Preclinical phase | Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina |
| Clinical phase | Istanbul, Turkey |
| Annual tuition | €11,000 (international, 2026/2027) |
As of August 2026. The university's own study contract is always decisive.
What does this mean for prospective students?
Applicants from the seven target markets are supported by Medschool Experts with immediate effect — from the first assessment through to the start of their studies. Whether this location is the right one in an individual case depends on prior education, budget and career plans after graduation. That is exactly what we work through with you in a free consultation.
One important point for context: Bosnia and Herzegovina is not part of the European Union. For later professional licensing in Germany, the automatic recognition under Directive 2005/36/EC therefore does not apply; instead, the knowledge test (Kenntnisprüfung) applies. This is a well-established route — but it has to be set up properly from the very beginning.
{{cta}}About the International University of Sarajevo
The International University of Sarajevo was founded in 2004 and is a private university with a campus in Ilidža near Sarajevo. It teaches entirely in English and runs faculties of medical sciences, engineering and natural sciences, business and administration, arts and social sciences, education, and law. One hallmark of the university is its dual-degree programmes with leading Turkish higher education institutions.
Assessment by Marcel Kloos
For us, this partnership closes a gap we have felt in our consultations for years. We regularly have families on the phone whose children grew up in Germany or Scandinavia and who wonder whether they have to choose professionally between Turkey and Europe. With this dual degree, they do not.
What convinces me professionally is the split: six semesters of fundamentals in a manageable setting, followed by clinical training in a city with the corresponding patient volume. That is a sensible sequence, not a stopgap.
And I also name what needs to be considered: Bosnia and Herzegovina is a non-EU country. Anyone who later wants to work in Germany goes through the knowledge test (Kenntnisprüfung). That is feasible and it is a route many people take — but it belongs in the planning from the start, not at the end.

Study medicine abroad: Marcel's own path
Born in Stuttgart, Marcel started his degree late: at 24 he enrolled at the Medical University of Sofia, Faculty of Dental Medicine, and graduated in 2021 from the English-language programme. He went through the same steps his clients face today — nostrification of school certificates, entrance interviews, finding a flat in Sofia and later the recognition of a foreign degree. In Switzerland he completed the federal recognition procedure and holds a Swiss dental licence.
What Marcel does at Medschool Experts
Today Marcel lives in Bern and runs Medschool Experts full-time. He visits every partner university in person, negotiates placement agreements directly with faculties and deans, and leads the free consultations in which applicants learn at which university they can start next semester. His YouTube channel on studying medicine abroad has helped thousands of applicants compare universities, costs and recognition.
Topics Marcel writes about
- Study medicine abroad without an entrance exam: universities, costs and admission
- Study dentistry, veterinary medicine or pharmacy in Europe in English
- Tuition fees and living costs at medical schools in Europe and worldwide
- Recognition of foreign medical degrees in the EU, Switzerland, the UK and the US
- Transferring between medical schools and returning home into a higher semester
