Studying Medicine in Uzbekistan: All Universities, Costs and the 2025 Merger
13.10.2026
Σύντομη απάντηση
Around 30 universities in Uzbekistan offer medicine in English from 2,500 USD per academic year. All locations, the Tashkent merger and recognition at a glance.
The 2025 Merger: Three Universities Became One
On September 1, 2025, the Tashkent Medical Academy, the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute, and the Tashkent State Dental Institute were merged by government decree into the new Tashkent State Medical University. The Urgench branch of the Tashkent Medical Academy was simultaneously separated as an independent Urgench State Medical Institute.
Many international intermediary portals continue to list the three old names to this day. Anyone encountering an offer with one of these names should ask which institution actually stands behind it today. The official domains of the new university are tashmeduni.uz and tsmu.co.uz.
Which universities exist in Uzbekistan?

Frequently mentioned but without a medical program are Nordic International University, Millat Umidi University, and Sharda University Uzbekistan in Andijan.
How much does the program cost?
Tuition fees are around 2,500 to 4,500 US dollars per academic year, equivalent to approximately 2,300 to 4,100 euros. Additionally there are dormitory costs of 50 to 80 US dollars per month and visa and registration fees of 500 to 600 US dollars per year. Those living privately should budget 600 to 800 euros per month in Tashkent.
Only the fee of Andijan State Medical Institute is directly confirmed: 3,500 US dollars plus 350 US dollars service fee per academic year. Fees for other universities can vary by up to 30 percent.

Admission, Language, and Program Structure
No numerus clausus. Requirements are a school leaving certificate covering physics, chemistry, and biology, and a minimum age of 17. What counts as a sufficient result in those subjects is set by each institution and varies from year to year, so we assess your certificate against the universities that fit it in a free individual consultation. Most institutions require no IELTS or TOEFL certificate, but there is an online interview. The program lasts six years, dentistry five.
Important: Tashkent State Medical University explicitly states that admission interviews may not be conducted by agencies, and that the student visa must go through the university — not a tourist visa.
What is the degree worth in Germany?
Uzbekistan is not an EU member. The degree is followed by the knowledge test (Kenntnisprüfung) and then licensing. Details are in the article Approbation and Recognition.
Also decisive is the listing in the World Directory of Medical Schools. Most state and a large portion of private institutions are listed there — but some of the newest foundations are not. The phrase "WHO approved" on intermediary portals does not replace this check.
Who is suited for Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan is hard to beat on price, and the traditional state institutions provide solid training. Anyone who later wants to work in German-speaking countries should clarify the recognition question and the listing status of their university in advance. Within Europe, the Medical Faculty Foca offers similar price ranges at 3,500 euros per academic year.

Author's Opinion
Uzbekistan has restructured its higher education system within just a few years, and that deserves respect. Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Andijan are not new foundations, but institutions with history.
What makes me cautious is the speed of the private foundations. Some have not yet guided a single cohort to graduation — anyone starting in 2026 will only find out in 2032 how their degree is treated. You don't have to take on this uncertainty. Check the World Directory entry before you sign.
Summary
- Around 30 universities, 13 of them state-run; six years of study, dentistry five.
- Tuition fees 2,500 to 4,500 US dollars per academic year — among the lowest worldwide.
- Since September 1, 2025, the three major Tashkent universities have merged to form Tashkent State Medical University.
- Not an EU member: in Germany, the knowledge test (Kenntnisprüfung) applies.
- Check the listing in the World Directory of Medical Schools for each university — not all newly founded ones are listed there.

Study medicine abroad: Marcel's own path
Born in Stuttgart, Marcel started his degree late: at 24 he enrolled at the Medical University of Sofia, Faculty of Dental Medicine, and graduated in 2021 from the English-language programme. He went through the same steps his clients face today — nostrification of school certificates, entrance interviews, finding a flat in Sofia and later the recognition of a foreign degree. In Switzerland he completed the federal recognition procedure and holds a Swiss dental licence.
What Marcel does at Medschool Experts
Today Marcel lives in Bern and runs Medschool Experts full-time. He visits every partner university in person, negotiates placement agreements directly with faculties and deans, and leads the free consultations in which applicants learn at which university they can start next semester. His YouTube channel on studying medicine abroad has helped thousands of applicants compare universities, costs and recognition.
Topics Marcel writes about
- Study medicine abroad without an entrance exam: universities, costs and admission
- Study dentistry, veterinary medicine or pharmacy in Europe in English
- Tuition fees and living costs at medical schools in Europe and worldwide
- Recognition of foreign medical degrees in the EU, Switzerland, the UK and the US
