Study medicine in the Caribbean and you take the most direct route into American medicine outside the United States. Caribbean medical schools teach a four-year MD in English, follow the US curriculum, prepare you for the USMLE from the first semester and send you into US teaching hospitals for the clinical years. Up to three intakes a year mean you start within months, not after a full application cycle.
Caribbean Medical Schools on Many Islands
Grenada, Barbados, St. Maarten, Saba, Antigua, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Curaçao, Aruba, Anguilla and the Cayman Islands all host medical schools. The study model is the same everywhere: anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology and pharmacology on the island campus together with USMLE Step 1 preparation, followed by clinical rotations in US hospitals. See every school in the complete list of Caribbean medical schools.
Where a Caribbean MD Leads
Caribbean graduates match every year into US residency programmes, strongest in internal medicine, family medicine, paediatrics and psychiatry. Our Partner University in Antigua
The University of Health Sciences Antigua is an official Medschool Experts partner university. Our applicants receive a tuition discount, can complete one clinical year in the USA and, with a prior degree, join a four-year graduate-entry track.

Πώς λειτουργεί η διαδικασία αίτησης;
Caribbean medical schools select students by individual file review: school record or degree, science preparation in biology, chemistry and physics, and a selection interview. The interview focuses on motivation and your plan for a career in medicine.
Teaching is in English at every campus. No Latin and no preparatory internship are required. Several schools, including our partner UHSA, offer a premedical track for school leavers.
Medschool Experts organises the complete application and the interview, usually fully online. Because each school offers several intakes a year, we plan the start date that fits your timeline. Details in our guide to Caribbean medical school requirements.
Αναγνωρίζεται το πτυχίο διεθνώς;
Caribbean medical schools lead to an MD that is built for the American licensing system. Graduates pass USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK, obtain ECFMG certification and apply for US residency through ERAS and the NRMP Match on the same calendar as US graduates. After residency and Step 3, they hold the same state licence as any doctor trained in the United States.
Germany and the EU
A Caribbean MD also opens the European labour market. In Germany, three defined steps lead to the Approbation: a German B2 certificate, the medical language exam (Fachsprachprüfung) and the knowledge test (Kenntnisprüfung). The language steps can be completed during your studies. A transfer into a higher semester at an EU university is possible as well. Details in our guide to the Caribbean medical degree in Europe.
Canada and Other Countries
For Canada, the route runs through the MCCQE of the Medical Council of Canada and the CaRMS match. For every other country, our advisers at Medschool Experts explain the exact steps for your home country in the consultation.
Your Route Planned with Us
We review the current status of every Caribbean campus for each intake and plan your path from enrolment to residency with you. More in our guide to the Caribbean match rates 2026.
Σπουδές και καθημερινή ζωή επιτόπου
Caribbean medical schools teach in small cohorts with close contact to faculty. Exams are largely multiple choice, exactly the format of the USMLE, so students practise the exam style from the first semester.
Students live in apartments and shared flats near campus. Willemstad on Curaçao and the Bridgetown area on Barbados offer the most infrastructure, while the smaller islands offer a quiet, focused study environment by the sea.
With the clinical phase, students move to US teaching hospitals. The letters of recommendation from these rotations carry the residency application. Many students describe the island years as the most focused study time of their lives.
