New Anglia University (George Hill)
New Anglia University teaches in English in George Hill and leads to the M.D. degree. Tuition fees are approximately EUR 9,936 per year; for Germany an equivalency assessment is required.
New Anglia University is located in George Hill on Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory in the northern Lesser Antilles with a population of around 15,000. The campus is in the Rogers Office Building on Edwin Wallace Rey Drive, a few minutes’ drive from the island’s international airport. The government of Anguilla lists New Anglia in its overview of licensed institutions in the territory; the university also maintains offices in London and New York. A pre-med programme and an MD programme are offered, taught throughout in English. An important point for context: the university is very young and only began teaching a few years ago, meaning there are no long-established cohorts of graduates whose career paths you could use for reference.
A Programme Looking Towards the UK
New Anglia positions itself differently from most Caribbean medical schools, which traditionally target the US market and the USMLE pathway. The university markets a route strongly oriented towards the UK, with clinical sections at NHS hospitals, and also lists hospitals in the USA, Germany and Anguilla. The programme is divided into terms of 15 weeks each: a pre-med phase, a Basic Sciences phase on campus, and a clinical phase at partner hospitals. Applicants who already have a relevant science degree enter directly into the Basic Sciences, shortening the total duration.
Accreditation: What Is and Is Not Documented
You need to look very carefully here. New Anglia is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) and in the FAIMER database. A listing there is a directory entry, not a substantive assessment of the programme. Accreditation by CAAM-HP, the responsible regional agency for the English-speaking Caribbean, is not documented for New Anglia: the university does not appear in CAAM-HP’s public overview of reviewed programmes. An ACCM accreditation is also not documented. What the university itself cites — for example alignment with WFME standards and membership of QAA and AMEE — are self-descriptions and memberships. These do not substitute for accreditation by a WFME-recognised agency, and that is precisely what is increasingly required internationally.
A Realistic Assessment
Anguilla is small, and the island’s health system is correspondingly limited. Clinical training therefore takes place almost entirely abroad, and how stable the individual hospital partnerships are over the full length of the programme is difficult to assess from the outside. If you are considering this route, obtain the current status on accreditation and rotation placements in writing from the university and cross-check against public registers. Medschool Experts advises on NC-free pathways into medicine in Germany and abroad and contextualises individual locations by comparison.

Admissions and Start Dates
New Anglia operates with three start dates per year. The university’s academic calendar shows January, May and September as 2026 start dates, with each term lasting 15 weeks. There is no central selection process like hochschulstart.de and no NC; the university reviews each application individually. For direct entry into the Basic Sciences it expects a science-oriented undergraduate background; for the pre-med pathway, a university entrance qualification suffices. English proficiency at a minimum of B2 level is required.
Fees and Living Costs
The university publishes its fees per term: USD 3,600 in the pre-med phase (three terms), USD 4,300 in the Basic Sciences (five terms) and USD 5,500 in the clinical phase (six terms). Additional items not included in the fee are: visa and administrative charges, professional indemnity insurance for the clinical phase, and examination fees for assessments such as USMLE or PLAB. The university also notes that individual hospitals may charge additional placement fees for rotations. For living costs, bear in mind that virtually everything on Anguilla is imported and the price level is correspondingly high.

Structure and Degree
The programme leads to the Doctor of Medicine (MD), not to a German Staatsexamen. The pre-clinical and para-clinical content is taught on campus in George Hill; the clinical sections take place at partner hospitals, primarily in the UK and the USA. The language of instruction and examination throughout is English — not just everyday English but solid medical language proficiency.
Recognition in Germany
The MD is not automatically recognised in Germany. Anguilla is not part of the EU, so automatic recognition under the EU Professional Qualifications Directive does not apply. Anyone wishing to practise medicine in Germany needs the Approbation under § 3 Bundesärzteordnung. The responsible authority assesses the equivalency of your training with the German medical degree. If this assessment reveals material differences, a Kenntnisprüfung follows: an oral-practical examination at the level of the Second Part of the Medical Licensing Examination, which must be passed before the Approbation is granted. Evidence of sufficient general German language proficiency and a medical language examination are also required.
The competent authorities are the Approbation offices of the individual states, and practice varies noticeably between states: processing times, documentary requirements and the assessment of individual foreign universities all differ. The fact that no accreditation by a WFME-recognised agency is documented for New Anglia does not make this route formally impossible, but it can complicate and lengthen the process. Ask the Approbation authority in the state where you intend to work before applying, and obtain their response in writing.

Life on Anguilla
Anguilla is a flat coral island of around 90 square kilometres with roughly 15,000 inhabitants. George Hill is centrally located, close to the airport and to The Valley, the administrative centre. Most places are not within walking distance; a car or scooter is part of everyday life for most students. Accommodation is in apartments on the private rental market; there is no traditional campus with dormitories.
Getting There and Isolation
There are no direct connections from Germany. The usual route is via London, a US hub, or Antigua and then a connecting flight — or by ferry from Sint Maarten. Budget time and money for trips home; spontaneous weekend visits are not an option. Almost all food and everyday goods are imported, which has a noticeable impact on prices. And the island is genuinely small: anyone who needs a city, anonymity and a wide range of leisure options should honestly consider whether they would thrive here over several years. Hurricane season from June to November is a further factor that can affect the academic year.
Συχνές Ερωτήσεις
Is the MD from New Anglia recognised in Germany?
Not automatically. For the Approbation, the responsible state authority assesses under § 3 Bundesärzteordnung whether your training is equivalent to the German medical degree. If material differences are found, you must sit the Kenntnisprüfung. How strictly and how quickly this is assessed depends on the state.
Does New Anglia hold a CAAM-HP or ACCM accreditation?
According to publicly available sources, no. The university does not appear in CAAM-HP’s overview of reviewed programmes, and an ACCM accreditation is also not documented. The listing in the World Directory of Medical Schools and the FAIMER entry are directory listings and do not substitute for accreditation.
Where do the clinical sections take place?
The university lists partner hospitals in the UK and the USA, as well as possibilities in Germany and on Anguilla. The specific hospitals available to you should be confirmed in writing before you commit, including whether additional placement fees apply.
When can I start?
The academic calendar shows three start dates per year: January, May and September. Each term lasts 15 weeks. There is no NC and no central deadline; applications go directly to the university.
What does the programme cost?
The university states fees per term: USD 3,600 for pre-med, USD 4,300 for Basic Sciences and USD 5,500 for the clinical phase. Not included are, among other things, visa and administrative fees, professional indemnity insurance, examination fees and living costs on the island.
