MSB Medical School Berlin is a private university based in Berlin whose medical programme has been state-recognised since 2020. The programme is divided into two pre-clinical years, three clinical years at Helios Klinikum Berlin-Buch, and the Praktisches Jahr. Teaching takes place in small groups, with a particular focus on interprofessional training alongside students from other health professions. In addition to medicine, MSB offers programmes in psychology, psychotherapy, and management.

MSB suits you if you want to stay in Berlin, accept a dedicated clinical partner hospital rather than a university hospital, and are looking for an admission route that does not depend on your Abitur grade. The financial commitment is substantial: €1,500 per month over the first ten semesters equals €18,000 per year, plus €300 per month during the Praktisches Jahr. These costs are borne entirely by the student, in addition to rent, living expenses, and study materials.

Εισαγωγή & Οικονομικά

Applications are submitted directly to the university, not via hochschulstart.de; there is no Abitur grade threshold. The selection process has two stages: a 90-minute written multiple-choice test covering biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics (weighted at 25%), and a 20-minute individual interview with integrated case simulation (weighted at 75%). External tests such as the TMS are not accepted.

Tuition is €1,500 per month during the first and second study phases and €300 per month during the Praktisches Jahr until completion of the third section of the medical licensing examination (as of August 2026). An application fee of €500 per application cycle and a one-time enrolment fee of €100 also apply. The programme starts on 1 April and 1 October each year.

Σπουδές & Αναγνώριση

The programme concludes with the German Staatsexamen, which entitles graduates to full medical licensure (Approbation), exactly as at a state university. Within the EU, automatic recognition applies under Directive 2005/36/EC.

Studying Between Wilmersdorf and Berlin-Buch

MSB's main building is at Rüdesheimer Straße 50 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf, in a period building near Rüdesheimer Platz with direct access to U-Bahn line U3. Nearby in Mecklenburgische Straße are anatomy and skills rooms; additional learning spaces are located at Leipziger Platz in Mitte. From the clinical phase onwards, daily life shifts to Berlin-Buch in the city's north-east, on the grounds of Helios Klinikum, which is served by S-Bahn line S2. You commute between locations within Berlin — no relocation is necessary, but travel time needs to be factored in.

Wilmersdorf is a quiet, affluent neighbourhood with correspondingly high rents. More affordable options are typically found in Wedding, Neukölln, or Lichtenberg; for the clinical semesters, the north-eastern districts around Pankow and Buch are practical. The Berlin housing market is competitive — allow considerably more time for your accommodation search than for the application itself.

Cohorts are small; seminars and practical sessions run in manageable groups. You will quickly get to know your fellow students and lecturers personally, which eases the transition — but also means that absences and moods are noticed. Berlin more than compensates: student societies, the main railway station, BER airport, and a range of leisure activities far beyond the campus.

Συχνές Ερωτήσεις

How does the admission process without NC work?

MSB uses a two-stage process. First, you sit a 90-minute university entrance test with multiple-choice questions in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. This is followed by a roughly 20-minute individual video interview with integrated case simulation. The interview counts for 75% of the selection score; the test counts for 25%. An externally taken TMS does not substitute for the university's own test.

What are the total costs?

MSB charges €1,500 per month for the first and second study phases and €300 per month for the Praktisches Jahr, plus a one-time enrolment fee of €100 and an application fee of €500 per application cycle (as of August 2026). As the fee runs monthly over the full standard study duration of twelve semesters and three months, the total reaches a substantial five-figure sum. Rent, living costs, and study materials are additional. Verify the fees on the university's website before applying, as they are updated regularly.

Is the degree a German Staatsexamen?

Yes. The MSB medical programme is state-recognised and follows the German medical licensing regulation (Approbationsordnung für Ärzte), leading to the Staatsexamen. You may then apply for Approbation and practise medicine in Germany — legally, you stand on exactly the same footing as a graduate of a state faculty.

Where does the clinical phase take place?

The first four semesters are held at MSB's Berlin campus locations. From the fifth to the tenth semester, you move to Helios Klinikum Berlin-Buch, a maximum-care hospital with dedicated seminar and learning rooms for students. The Praktisches Jahr in the eleventh and twelfth semesters consists of three blocks of 16 weeks each at approved teaching hospitals or other recognised institutions.

How is the programme accredited?

MSB is a state-recognised private university that has been assessed by the German Science Council (Wissenschaftsrat); the medical programme holds state recognition from the state of Berlin. Institutional accreditations are time-limited and must be renewed. When applying, it is worth checking the current accreditation status and its validity period. Medschool Experts advises on NC-free medical programmes in Germany and abroad and can help you evaluate such considerations.
