The Kenntnisprüfung is a state examination for doctors whose degree comes from a country outside the EU. It follows the second part of the German state medical examination, is oral and practical, and lasts roughly 60 to 90 minutes with a patient presentation and an oral discussion.

The main subjects are internal medicine and surgery, plus one further subject, along with emergency medicine, clinical pharmacology, imaging and the legal aspects of practising medicine.
If you complete your degree in the European Union, you do not have to sit a Kenntnisprüfung – one of the most important practical advantages of studying at an EU university rather than outside Europe.
