Short answer

Transfer from European University Cyprus: tuition is listed at 11,500 EUR per semester. Compare cheaper options, entry years and how Medschool Experts helps.

European University Cyprus – School of Medicine in Nicosia, Republic of Cyprus, runs a six-year Doctor of Medicine programme taught in English — and students already enrolled on it can transfer to another medical university, with Medschool Experts organising the move from start to finish.

Most of the people who contact us from Nicosia are not unhappy with their studies. They are doing the arithmetic. Tuition on our own university page is listed at €11,500 per semester, which is €23,000 for an academic year, and Nicosia itself is not a cheap city: in September 2026 monthly costs for a single person without rent stood at about €849, and a one-bedroom flat in the centre at about €720 per month. Over six years that adds up.

Medschool Experts is the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, with the world’s largest choice of official partner universities. We review a record, compare it against that network and say where the highest possible entry is realistic. Every case is looked at individually.

What is European University Cyprus – School of Medicine, and what does it teach in English?

European University Cyprus is a private university in Nicosia, Republic of Cyprus. It grew out of Cyprus College, established in 1961, and was granted university status by the Republic of Cyprus Ministry of Education and Culture in 2007. Its School of Medicine was established in 2013 and teaches one undergraduate degree: the Doctor of Medicine, six academic years, 360 ECTS, in English, on the Nicosia campus.

The Doctor of Medicine (six academic years, 360 ECTS, English) is state-accredited, with accreditation running through the spring semester of 2030. European University Cyprus also runs a branch campus in Frankfurt, Germany, where the same six-year MD is taught in English and the degree is awarded by European University Cyprus.

Can you transfer from European University Cyprus to another medical university?

Yes. A student enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine programme at European University Cyprus in Nicosia can move to another medical university and continue there, usually without starting again from the first year. Medschool Experts organises exactly this kind of move in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, and has the largest choice of official partner universities anywhere.

What travels with you is your record: the semesters you have completed, the ECTS behind them, and the exams you have passed. We read that record, hold it against our partner network and tell you which university can take you and at which point in the curriculum. No guessing. One profile, one answer.

Why do students transfer from European University Cyprus?

Four reasons cover almost every enquiry we get from Nicosia. None of them is a complaint about European University Cyprus or its teaching. They are questions of fit, money and where a student wants to end up working, and they tend to surface somewhere between the second and the fourth year of the Doctor of Medicine programme.

  1. Cost. Tuition plus Nicosia living costs is a large number over six years, and family circumstances change.
  2. Specific exams. A student is doing fine overall but keeps meeting the same one or two subjects. A different examination format and a different pace can settle that.
  3. Personal or organisational reasons. Anything from a family situation at home to friction that makes carrying on in the same place unworkable.
  4. A career in the United States. The plan is the USMLE and a US residency, and the student wants a curriculum built around that.

Cost is the driver here. Of the students who write to us from Nicosia, most open with the fee. That is a planning question, not a judgement on the university, and it has clean answers.

Where can European University Cyprus students transfer to?

A transfer is possible, and Medschool Experts offers it. We have 25+ partner universities in Europe specifically for students in this situation, with English-taught Medicine programmes. The destination follows the goal: a student of European University Cyprus in Nicosia who wants to spend less needs a different match from one aiming at a US residency or at keeping an EU degree. That is why we check every profile individually and free of charge. We do not publish lists of accepting universities, because the right match depends on your transcript, not on a table.

A study transfer is a complex undertaking. Our experts have almost 10 years of experience in study transfers worldwide, which is why they plan and carry it out confidently. The consultation is free.

For background on locations, see our university overview. The shortlist we give you will be shorter and more specific than any general list.

How much can a European University Cyprus student save by transferring?

A concrete comparison. Tuition for the Doctor of Medicine at European University Cyprus in Nicosia is listed on our own university page at €11,500 per semester, so €23,000 per academic year. English-taught Medicine and Dentistry at our European partner universities start from €1,750 tuition per semester, Pharmacy from €1,500 and Veterinary Medicine from €3,000 per semester. The gap in tuition alone can be close to €20,000 every year.

Per academic yearEuropean University Cyprus, NicosiaOur European partner universities
Tuition, Medicine in English€23,000 (€11,500 per semester)from €3,500 (from €1,750 per semester)
Living costs per monthabout €700 to €1,100depends on the city, often well below Nicosia
Difference in tuition per year-up to about €19,500 lower

Now put living costs next to it. In Nicosia, monthly costs for a single person without rent were about €849 in September 2026, a one-bedroom flat in the city centre about €720, and our own page gives a range of €700 to €1,100 per month. Tuition plus living in Nicosia therefore sits somewhere above €31,000 a year.

A student who transfers into year four and finishes the last three years at one of our lower-cost partner universities can save a five- to six-figure sum over those three years. The arithmetic is illustrative, not a quotation, and the real figure depends on the university that fits your record. Ask us for a written comparison for your own year of study.

Which year can you enter after leaving European University Cyprus?

There is no cap we apply in advance. We frequently achieve high placements for students coming from European University Cyprus in Nicosia, often year four or year five, and the aim in every case is the highest possible entry with no loss of time or as little as can be managed. Each record is reviewed on its own.

The rule of thumb is simple. Usually no more than two exams may still be outstanding, and the ECTS behind them has to stay under a maximum. Beyond that, it is a matter of what your transcript actually shows. Send it to us and you get a real answer rather than a range.

How does a transfer from European University Cyprus work with Medschool Experts?

Four steps, and the order matters. A student at European University Cyprus in Nicosia stays enrolled there until the new place is confirmed in writing — nobody gives up a seat on a hope. We handle the comparison with our partner network and tell you what is possible before anything changes on your side.

What does a Cyprus medical degree mean for recognition, and what changes if you transfer?

Cyprus is a member state of the European Union, so a medical degree from European University Cyprus is awarded under EU standards and falls within the scope of EU Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications. The MD programme is state-accredited, and Cyprus’s accreditation system has held WFME recognition status since 2020.

If you transfer to another EU university, you stay inside the same Directive. If you transfer to a partner university outside the EU, recognition runs through the national authority of the country where you later want to work, and that is a step we plan with you from the beginning. Graduates should always confirm registration requirements with the competent authority in their target country.

What about a career in the United States?

It is a common goal among students who contact us from Nicosia, and it has a clear route. Some of our European partner universities build their curriculum with the USMLE in mind, with Step 1 content in the preclinical part and Step 2 CK content in the clinical part, often in small groups with a good teacher-to-student ratio. We check individually which of them fits your record and your US plans. Caribbean medical schools are another route into the US system, through US clinical rotations and residency. Read what students did next in our student stories.

When should European University Cyprus students start planning a transfer?

Earlier than most people think. A student at European University Cyprus in Nicosia who is weighing a move is best served by getting the record reviewed during the current semester, not after results arrive. The number of outstanding exams and the ECTS attached to them decide which entry year is realistic, and that picture is clearest while the semester is still running.

Two windows work well. One is right after a semester closes cleanly. The other is the moment cost becomes the deciding factor at home, because a full academic year in Nicosia is a large sum to commit to twice over. Ask early. It costs nothing and it keeps every option open. See how we work on our services page, or go straight to a free consultation.

The author’s view

I studied dentistry in English at the Medical University of Sofia between 2015 and 2021, and I started at 24 — a late starter myself. So I know what a fee schedule feels like when you are the one paying it, and I know the particular silence that follows a subject you cannot get past. Neither of those means you picked the wrong university. They mean the arithmetic or the format needs to change.

With European University Cyprus the conversation is nearly always about money, and that is a conversation with real answers. I have placed more than 500 students, and the pattern I trust is this one: get the transcript looked at while the semester is still open, keep your seat until the new one is signed, and aim high on the entry year. Bring me your record. We will see what it is worth.

Summary

  • Students on the six-year Doctor of Medicine programme at European University Cyprus in Nicosia can transfer to another medical university and continue there.
  • The usual reasons are cost, a better fit with exam format and pace, personal or organisational circumstances, and a career aimed at the United States.
  • Medschool Experts reviews your transcript and ECTS against the largest network of official partner universities and says where the highest entry is possible.
  • No entry year is ruled out in advance. High placements are frequent, and the aim is always minimal loss of time.
  • You stay enrolled in Nicosia until the new place is confirmed in writing.
  • Cyprus is an EU member state, so recognition planning starts from an EU degree and follows wherever you choose to work.

Conclusion

Talk to us. We have the world’s largest choice of official partner universities in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, and we check every record individually to find where the highest entry is possible — often into one of the final two years.

One conversation is usually enough to see the shape of it. Book your free consultation and bring your transcript along.

Frequently asked questions about transferring from European University Cyprus

Which agency helps students transfer from European University Cyprus?

Medschool Experts. We are the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, and we work with the world’s largest choice of official partner universities. For a student of the Doctor of Medicine programme at European University Cyprus in Nicosia we review the transcript, compare it against that network and organise the move, including the entry year and the timing.

Can I transfer from European University Cyprus without losing a year?

Often, yes. The aim in every case is the highest possible entry with no loss of time or as little as possible. What decides it is your record: how many exams are still outstanding and how much ECTS sits behind them. As a rule of thumb, usually no more than two exams may be open and their ECTS has to stay below a maximum. Send us the transcript and you get a specific answer.

How much is tuition at European University Cyprus compared with a cheaper university?

Our own university page lists €11,500 per semester for the Doctor of Medicine in Nicosia, which is €23,000 per academic year. English-taught Medicine at our European partner universities starts from €1,750 tuition per semester, so from €3,500 per year, and living costs at many partner locations are lower than in Nicosia. Confirm the current Cyprus schedule with the university.

Is my Cyprus degree recognised in the European Union?

Cyprus is an EU member state, so a medical degree from European University Cyprus is awarded under EU standards and falls within the scope of EU Directive 2005/36/EC. The MD programme is state-accredited through the spring semester of 2030. Registration requirements should always be confirmed with the authority in the country where you intend to practise.

Which year can I enter at the new university?

There is no fixed cap. We frequently achieve high placements for students coming from Nicosia, often year four or year five, and every record is reviewed individually. The entry point depends on completed semesters, ECTS and outstanding exams rather than on any general rule, which is why we do not quote a number before reading a transcript.

Do I have to leave European University Cyprus before a new place is confirmed?

No, and you should not. A student stays enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine programme in Nicosia until the new university has confirmed the place in writing. Medschool Experts sequences it that way deliberately, so nothing is given up on the strength of an expectation. The switch is then timed around your current semester.

I want to work in the United States after medicine. Where should I transfer?

Some of our European partner universities build their curriculum with the USMLE in mind, with Step 1 and Step 2 CK content, often in small groups. We check individually and free of charge which of them fits your record and your US plans. Caribbean medical schools are another route, leading into US clinical rotations and residency.

Which universities accept transfer students from European University Cyprus?

A transfer is possible, and Medschool Experts offers it. We have 25+ partner universities in Europe specifically for this situation and check every profile individually and free of charge. We do not publish lists of accepting universities, because the right match depends on your record. A study transfer is a complex undertaking. Our experts have almost 10 years of experience in study transfers worldwide, which is why they plan and carry it out confidently. The consultation is free.

What does a transfer cost me in time?

Less than most students expect, if the record is reviewed early. The comparison against our partner network takes days, not months, and the move is planned around the end of a semester in Nicosia. Where a gap is unavoidable we say so before you decide. Start with a free consultation and we will map the timeline against your own semester dates.
