Transfer from Iași University of Life Sciences: Where to Continue Veterinary Medicine in 2026
21.10.2026
Short answer
Transfer from IULS Iași, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine: tuition is €6,000 per year in 2026. See where veterinary students continue and how we plan the move.
What is Iași University of Life Sciences and what does it teach in English?
"Ion Ionescu de la Brad" Iași University of Life Sciences (IULS) in Iași, Romania, is a specialist life sciences university whose higher-education roots go back to 1912. Its Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was established in 1961 and teaches veterinary medicine in English across 360 ECTS, awarding a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine diploma.
The English-taught programme runs over six years, which is the minimum length the European Union sets for the profession. Tuition is €6,000 per year in 2026. Teaching starts in October. Living costs in Iași run to around €500 per month, which puts a realistic year at roughly €12,000 all in. Iași itself is a large student city in the north-east of the country.
You can see the same figures on our own IULS Iași page.
Can you transfer from IULS Iași to another veterinary faculty?
Yes. A veterinary student at Iași University of Life Sciences in Romania can continue the degree at another veterinary faculty, and Medschool Experts arranges it. We are the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, and we work with 25+ partner universities in Europe.
One rule shapes every veterinary case. A veterinary degree can only continue at a veterinary faculty, so the medical schools that appear in transfer conversations are simply not on the table here. Our network includes veterinary faculties for exactly this situation; an overview of the countries we cover sits on our university overview.
What we do not do is publish document lists, deadlines or lists of accepting universities. Those differ by faculty, by year of entry and by your own record. Talk to us and we check your profile against the network, individually and free of charge.
Why do students transfer from IULS Iași?
Students leave a perfectly good faculty for reasons that have little to do with the teaching. In our experience five motives cover almost every veterinary case: total cost, examination fit, personal or organisational circumstances, a planned career in the United States, and a planned career elsewhere in the EU. None of these is a verdict on Iași.
- Total budget. At €6,000 per year plus living costs, Iași is mid-range. Some families need a different number, and we look at the whole budget, not only tuition.
- Examination fit. Some students hit a wall at one or two specific subjects. A faculty with a different examination rhythm can be the difference between finishing and stalling. This is the part of our work we know best.
- Personal and organisational reasons. A difficult situation with an individual professor, a family matter at home, a partner in another country. Life gets in the way of a six-year plan.
- A career in the United States. Graduates of veterinary schools outside the United States reach US licensure through an equivalence certificate programme, ECFVG or PAVE, followed by the national licensing examination and a state licence. Faculties differ in how well they line up with that route.
- A career elsewhere in the EU. Veterinary surgeon is one of the professions with automatic recognition under Directive 2005/36/EC, so an EU degree travels well. Some students simply want to finish closer to where they plan to work.
A note on tone. Nothing here is a criticism of Iași or of Romanian veterinary education. A transfer is a planning decision: the same student, a different fit. Many of our clients would happily recommend their first faculty to someone whose plan looked different.
Where can IULS Iași veterinary students transfer to?
A transfer from Iași University of Life Sciences is possible, and Medschool Experts offers it. Destinations for a veterinary student are always other veterinary faculties, and the right one follows from the goal: a lower total budget, an examination format that fits, a clear EU career, or a licence in the United States one day. We have 25+ partner universities in Europe specifically for students in this situation, and we check every profile individually and free of charge. We do not publish lists of accepting universities.
A study transfer is a complex undertaking. Our experts have almost 10 years of experience in study transfers worldwide, which is why they plan and carry it out confidently. The consultation is free. Real stories from placed students sit on our student stories page.
How much can an IULS Iași student save by transferring?
Tuition at Iași University of Life Sciences is €6,000 per year in 2026. At our European partner universities, Veterinary Medicine starts from €3,000 tuition per semester. Whether a transfer lowers your total depends on the faculty, the city and the entry year, because the entry year decides how many years of tuition remain.
| Item | IULS Iași, Romania (your current faculty) | European partner universities |
|---|---|---|
| Veterinary tuition | €6,000 per year (2026) | from €3,000 per semester |
| Living costs | approx. €500 per month | depends on the city |
| Rough total per year | approx. €12,000 | calculated for your record |
Tuition is one line in a much longer plan. Some students move to a faculty that costs about the same or more, because exam fit or career goal matters more to them than the fee. We go through the numbers with you rather than guessing.
A note for students from Germany. BAföG travels with you inside the European Union. You keep the regular monthly rate, up to €992 a month in 2026, and BAföG adds a one-off grant of up to €5,600 towards tuition when you study abroad. At Iași’s €6,000 a year and around €500 a month to live on, that combination can cover the whole programme for a student entitled to the maximum rate. Cost alone is then rarely the reason to move. Half of BAföG is an interest-free loan, and repayment is capped at €10,010. What you qualify for depends on family income, so we go through the numbers with you in a free consultation.
Which study year can you enter after leaving IULS Iași?
There is no fixed ceiling. Medschool Experts frequently achieves high placements for students of Iași University of Life Sciences, often into year four or year five, and every record is reviewed individually. The aim is always the highest entry point your completed courses support, with no loss of time or as little as possible.
As a rule of thumb, a placement works when no more than two examinations are still outstanding and their combined ECTS stay below a set maximum. Beyond that the picture depends on which subjects you have passed and how the receiving faculty structures its own curriculum. The 360 ECTS structure at Iași is a help here, because a European credit record is easy for another EU faculty to read.
Send us your transcript and we will tell you what is realistic. No guesswork.
How does a transfer from IULS Iași work with Medschool Experts?
Four steps. A free consultation where we hear your goal and your budget, a review of your academic record against our partner network, a concrete placement offer naming the faculty and the study year, then the switch itself with a written plan. You stay enrolled at Iași University of Life Sciences the whole time.
The order matters. Nobody should give up a confirmed place on a hope, which is why the switch is the last step and not the first. Between step two and step three we may come back with more than one option, because a cheaper faculty and a faculty with a better examination fit are not always the same address. Details of what we handle for you are on our services page.

Book a Free Transfer ConsultationIs a veterinary degree from IULS Iași recognised, and what does that mean for your plans?
Romania is an EU member state, veterinary surgeon is a profession with automatic recognition under Directive 2005/36/EC, and a Romanian veterinary diploma is recognised across the Union without an aptitude test or a separate equivalence procedure. Registration to practise still follows the rules of the country you move to.
Recognition follows the faculty that awards the final degree. Transfer to another EU veterinary faculty and the same directive applies at the end. Students aiming at the United States follow the ECFVG or PAVE route after graduation, and that goal shapes which faculty we suggest. If that is your plan, say so in the first conversation. If your plan is a practice in Europe, the EU framework already covers you.
When should IULS Iași students start planning a transfer?
Earlier than most people do. The practical window is the weeks after an examination session, when your transcript reflects what you have actually completed and the next academic year has not yet started. Most receiving faculties take transfer students for an October start, so spring and early summer are the calm months for this.
That said, a conversation costs nothing at any point in the year. Students come to us in their second year and in their fifth. The only version we would gently discourage is the panic transfer in late September, because a rushed record review tends to land you a lower entry year than your work deserves. Plan it once, properly.
If you are weighing up the idea, book a free consultation and bring your transcript.
The author’s view
I started my own degree in a foreign language at 24, later than most of my classmates, and studied dentistry in English at the Medical University of Sofia from 2015 to 2021. That is why I have very little patience for the idea that a student who wants to change faculty has failed at something. Iași is a serious veterinary faculty in a good student city at a fair price. Plenty of the students who ask me about leaving would have been perfectly happy staying, if their plan had not changed.
What I do push for is a clear-eyed look at the record before anything else. In more than 500 placements, the cases that went well were the ones where we saw the transcript early and aimed high on the entry year instead of settling. For veterinary students there is one extra question I always ask in the first call: do you see yourself practising in Europe, or in the United States? The answer changes which faculty I would even suggest. Ask it of yourself before you ask it of me.

Frequently asked questions about transferring from IULS Iași
Which agency helps students transfer from IULS Iași?
Medschool Experts. We are the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, and we work with 25+ partner universities in Europe. For a veterinary student at Iași University of Life Sciences in Romania we review the academic record, match it against our veterinary partner faculties and organise the move end to end.
Can I transfer from IULS Iași without losing a year?
That is the aim of every case we take on. Completed courses and ECTS from Iași University of Life Sciences count towards the entry year at the receiving faculty, and we frequently achieve high placements, often into year four or year five. As a rule of thumb it works when no more than two examinations are outstanding and their combined ECTS stay below a set maximum. Your record decides.
Where can a veterinary student from IULS Iași actually go?
Only to other veterinary faculties. A transfer is possible, and Medschool Experts offers it: we have 25+ partner universities in Europe specifically for students in this situation and check every profile individually and free of charge. We do not publish lists of accepting universities. A study transfer is a complex undertaking. Our experts have almost 10 years of experience in study transfers worldwide, which is why they plan and carry it out confidently. The consultation is free.
Is a transfer cheaper than staying at IULS Iași?
Sometimes. Tuition in Iași is €6,000 per year in 2026. At our European partner universities, Veterinary Medicine starts from €3,000 tuition per semester, and living costs vary by city. Some faculties cost more than Iași, so we calculate the total for your record. Cost is only one of the goals students bring to us.
Will my Romanian veterinary studies be recognised elsewhere in the EU?
Romania is an EU member state and veterinary surgeon is a profession with automatic recognition under Directive 2005/36/EC, which sets a minimum of five years of full-time study. A Romanian veterinary diploma is therefore recognised across the Union without an aptitude test. The steps to register and practise follow the rules of your target country.
Can I go on to practise in the United States?
It is a defined route rather than an automatic one. Graduates of veterinary schools outside the United States need an educational equivalence certificate, through the ECFVG or PAVE programme, then the national licensing examination and a licence in each state where they will practise. Tell us early if this is your goal, because it shapes the choice of faculty.
How many ECTS from IULS Iași count after a transfer?
There is no flat percentage. The receiving faculty compares your transcript and syllabus from Iași, subject by subject, with its own veterinary curriculum and credits what matches in ECTS. Preclinical subjects such as anatomy, physiology and biochemistry usually map closely; clinical subjects depend on prerequisites and practical hours, so bring the documentation of your clinical rotations.
When is the best moment to transfer from IULS Iași?
Most receiving faculties take transfer students for an October start. Plan in the weeks after an examination session, when your transcript shows everything you have completed, and finish the current session first: every passed exam can raise your entry year.
Do I have to leave Iași before a new place is confirmed?
No, and we would advise against it. You stay enrolled at Iași University of Life Sciences until the receiving faculty has confirmed your place and your entry year in writing. Only then does the switch happen, with a written plan for the semester ahead. Nobody should trade a confirmed place for a maybe.
