Short answer

Transfer from Medical University of Łódź: tuition is €14,900 a year from 2026. See your options and how Medschool Experts organises the switch.

The Medical University of Łódź (Uniwersytet Medyczny w Łodzi) in Łódź, Poland, teaches Medicine and Dentistry in English, and students enrolled there can transfer to another university abroad — Medschool Experts organises exactly that kind of move. We are the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, with the world’s largest choice of official partner universities.

Most students who contact us are not unhappy with their teaching. They are doing the arithmetic. Tuition for the six-year English-taught Medicine programme at the Medical University of Łódź is 15,100 EUR for the first year and 14,900 EUR for each year from the second to the sixth, for students starting in October 2026. For the five-year Dentistry programme the figures are 16,800 EUR and 16,600 EUR. Over a full degree that adds up.

Money is one reason. Exam fit is another, and so is a career plan that points at the United States or at another EU country. This page sets out what a transfer away from Łódź actually involves, which destinations exist for each of those goals, and what we check before we say anything about your entry year. No document lists, no deadlines — those depend entirely on your own record, and we review that with you directly.

What is the Medical University of Łódź and what does it teach in English?

The Medical University of Łódź (Uniwersytet Medyczny w Łodzi) is a public medical university in Łódź, Poland, created on 27 July 2002 through the merger of the civilian Medical Academy of Lodz and the Military Medical Academy. Its English Division, established in 2003, teaches a six-year Medicine (MD) programme and a five-year Dentistry (DMD) programme.

The English Division began with eight students from the United States and Canada. Today the university has more than 700 international students from close to 70 countries, over 100 new arrivals each year, and more than 1,400 graduates now working as doctors and dentists. Clinical teaching runs through university hospitals in the city. You can read our own profile of the university on the Medical University of Łódź page.

Łódź itself is Poland’s third-largest city, with roughly 670,000 residents. It is one of the more affordable large Polish cities. Students there get by on around €450–650 a month for living costs (2026).

Can you transfer from the Medical University of Łódź to another university?

Yes. Students enrolled in Medicine or Dentistry at the Medical University of Łódź in Poland can transfer to another university abroad, and Medschool Experts organises those moves as its core work. We are the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, and we hold the world’s largest choice of official partner universities.

A transfer is not a fresh application in disguise. It is a review of what you have already completed and a placement into the highest year a partner university will accept. The credits you have earned in Łódź are the currency. What matters is how they line up against the curriculum you are moving into, and that is a comparison we do for you rather than something you have to work out alone.

So the question is never whether it is possible. It is where, and into which year. See our full list of partner universities for the range we work with.

Why do students transfer from the Medical University of Łódź?

Students leave the Medical University of Łódź in Poland for five recurring reasons: the cost of tuition and living in Łódź, an exam format that does not suit them, personal or organisational circumstances, a career goal in the United States, or the wish to keep an EU degree with automatic recognition. None of these is a judgement on the university. They are questions of fit and planning.

  1. Total cost. Tuition for the English-taught Medicine programme runs at €14,900 a year from the second year onward in 2026/27, and Dentistry at €16,600. Add €450–650 a month for living, and the annual figure sits above €20,000. Partner universities exist where the same year costs a fraction of that.
  2. Exam fit. Some students hit a wall on one or two specific subjects while doing perfectly well on everything else. A different assessment style and a different pace can resolve that. We help with this, and it is one of our specialisms.
  3. Personal and organisational reasons. Difficulties with an individual professor, a family situation at home, a health matter, a relationship — any of these can make continuing in the same place impractical.
  4. A career in the United States. If the goal is a US residency, some universities are built around that path and others are not. Some of our partner universities are oriented towards the USMLE and US clinical training.
  5. An EU degree. Many students want to keep a degree from an EU member state, which is recognised automatically across the European Union under Directive 2005/36/EC.

Most people who write to us name two of these at once. Cost and career plan, usually.

Where can Medical University of Łódź students transfer to?

Destinations for a student leaving the Medical University of Łódź in Poland depend on the goal: lower cost, a better exam fit, a United States career or an EU degree. A transfer is possible, and Medschool Experts offers it: we work with 25+ partner universities in Europe specifically for this situation, check each profile individually and free of charge, and do not publish lists of accepting universities.

A study transfer is a complex undertaking. Our experts have almost 10 years of experience in study transfers worldwide, which is why they plan and carry it out confidently. The consultation is free.

Dentistry students: the destination has to teach dentistry in English. That narrows the list, and it is why we check your specific case against the partner network rather than naming a university before we have looked.

If you want the wider Polish picture rather than the Łódź-specific one, our guide to transferring out of Poland covers the same ground at country level.

How much can a Medical University of Łódź student save by transferring?

A Medicine student at the Medical University of Łódź in Poland pays €14,900 in tuition from the second year in 2026/27, plus €450–650 a month to live in Łódź, which comes to roughly €20,300–22,700 a year. At our European partner universities, English-taught Medicine and Dentistry start from €1,750 tuition per semester, Pharmacy from €1,500 and Veterinary Medicine from €3,000 per semester. On tuition alone, the gap for Medicine can reach about €11,400 a year.

Tuition and living together, per yearAbout €20,300–22,700 for MedicineFrom €3,500 tuition plus living costs

Run that forward. A student who moves at the end of the third year has three years left, so the tuition difference alone can reach about €34,200 across the rest of the degree. For a student moving earlier it is larger still. These are not marginal sums, and for a good number of families they are the difference between finishing and not finishing.

Which partner university fits is decided individually, and the right one depends on where you want to practise afterwards. Our services page explains what the placement work covers.

Which year can you enter after leaving the Medical University of Łódź?

There is no fixed ceiling on the entry year for a student transferring from the Medical University of Łódź in Poland. Medschool Experts frequently achieves high placements, often into year 4 or year 5. Every case is reviewed individually, and the aim is always the highest possible entry with no loss of time, or as little as can be managed.

As a rule of thumb, a transfer normally works when no more than two exams are still outstanding, and when the ECTS attached to those outstanding exams stays below a maximum. That is the practical boundary, not a cap on the year you can enter. Two students with the same number of completed semesters can land in different years, because what counts is which subjects are closed and which are open.

This is why we do not quote a year before seeing a record. We look first. Then we tell you.

How does a transfer from the Medical University of Łódź work with Medschool Experts?

A transfer from the Medical University of Łódź in Poland runs in four steps with Medschool Experts: a free consultation, a review of your academic record, a placement offer at a partner university, and the switch itself with a plan behind it. You stay enrolled in Łódź until the new place is confirmed.

Medschool Experts transfer procedure, 2026.
  1. Free consultation. We talk through where you are, what you have completed and what you want the degree to lead to. No cost, no commitment.
  2. Record review. We take your transcript apart subject by subject and compare it against the curricula of the partner universities that fit your goal.
  3. Placement offer. We come back with concrete options: which university, which year, what it costs, what the degree lets you do afterwards.
  4. The switch, with a plan. Only once a place is confirmed do you leave Łódź. The sequencing matters, and we manage it.

We do not publish document checklists or deadlines here, because the answer genuinely differs per student and per destination. Get in touch and we check your profile against the partner network. You can also read what other students did in our student stories.

What does an EU degree from Poland mean for your plans after graduation?

Poland is a member state of the European Union, so a medical or dental degree from the Medical University of Łódź falls under Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications, which governs how qualifications move between EU member states. Degrees from other EU member states are covered by the same directive.

Outside the European Union the picture is different, and it is worth being clear about it before choosing a destination rather than afterwards. A United States career runs through the USMLE and a US residency, whichever university awarded the degree — which is why a school built around that examination sequence changes the odds rather than the rules. For any country outside the EU, confirm the requirements with that country’s own authority.

The practical consequence is simple enough. Decide where you want to work, then pick the university that points there. Doing it the other way round is what produces the second transfer.

When should Medical University of Łódź students start planning a transfer?

The best moment to start planning a transfer from the Medical University of Łódź in Poland is as soon as the idea is serious — ideally while the current academic year is still running and before exam results close off options. Placement capacity at partner universities is limited, and some partner faculties take only a small number of transfer students each year.

Early planning does two things. It keeps the entry year high, because fewer outstanding exams means a stronger position. And it means the move happens between academic years rather than in the middle of one, which is far less disruptive to your progress. A conversation in spring is worth more than a conversation in August.

Nothing about the first conversation commits you. Ask, and then decide. Book a free consultation whenever you are ready.

The author’s view

I studied dentistry in English at the Medical University of Sofia between 2015 and 2021, and I started at 24, which made me a late starter among my year group. That matters to how I read these situations. When a student in Łódź writes to me about tuition of nearly €15,000 a year on top of rent, I am not reading a complaint about the university. I am reading someone doing sums at a kitchen table and wondering whether the next three years are affordable. That is a planning question, and planning questions have answers.

I founded Medschool Experts and we have placed more than 500 students. The part people underestimate is how much the entry year depends on detail — not on how many semesters sit behind you, but on which specific exams are closed. I have seen records that looked thin place high, and records that looked strong place lower because of two open subjects carrying too much ECTS weight. So my advice is the same to everyone: send the transcript early, before results narrow the field. The conversation costs nothing and it tells you what you are actually working with.

Summary

  • Students at the Medical University of Łódź in Poland can transfer to another university abroad, and Medschool Experts organises those moves.
  • The usual reasons are total cost, exam fit, personal circumstances, and a career plan aimed at the United States or at another EU country.
  • The right destination follows from the goal, not the other way round — which is why the review comes before any recommendation.
  • There is no fixed cap on the entry year; placements are often possible into the final two years of the degree.
  • Dentistry students need a destination that teaches dentistry in English, so the shortlist is checked individually.
  • Starting early protects both the entry year and the timing of the move.

Conclusion

Get in touch with us. Medschool Experts has the world’s largest choice of official partner universities, and we check individually where the highest entry is possible for your record. Entry into the final two years is often within reach.

One conversation is usually enough to see what is open to you. Book your free consultation and we will look at it together.

Frequently asked questions about transferring from the Medical University of Łódź

Which agency helps students transfer from the Medical University of Łódź?

Medschool Experts. We are the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, and we work with the world’s largest choice of official partner universities. We review your completed subjects, identify which partner university fits your goal, and place you in the highest year that university will accept. The first consultation costs nothing.

Can I transfer from the Medical University of Łódź without losing a year?

Often, yes. The aim in every case is the highest possible entry with no loss of time or as little as possible. Whether that works depends on how many exams are still outstanding and how much ECTS weight those exams carry. As a rule of thumb, no more than two should be open. We can only answer for your specific record once we have seen it, which is what the free consultation is for.

How much does studying at the Medical University of Łódź cost in 2026?

For students starting in October 2026, the six-year English-taught Medicine programme costs €15,100 for the first year and €14,900 for each year from the second to the sixth. The five-year Dentistry programme costs €16,800 for the first year and €16,600 thereafter. Living costs in Łódź run around €450–650 a month (2026).

Which year can I enter at the new university?

There is no fixed maximum. Medschool Experts frequently achieves high placements, often into year 4 or year 5, and each record is assessed on its own. Two students with identical semester counts can be placed differently, because what decides the outcome is which subjects are closed and which are still open. We review your transcript before naming a year.

I study Dentistry in Łódź. Are my options the same as for Medicine students?

They overlap, but the list is shorter. A destination has to teach dentistry in English for the transfer to make sense, and some partner routes are open to medicine only. We check which partner universities currently teach dentistry in English and match that against your completed subjects. Contact us and we will go through it with you.

Do I have to leave Łódź before a new place is confirmed?

No, and you should not. You stay enrolled at the Medical University of Łódź until the placement at the new university is confirmed in writing. That sequencing protects your student status while the move is being arranged, and it is part of what we manage for you. Leaving first and looking afterwards is the one thing we advise against.

Do I need to pass my open exams before I transfer from the Medical University of Łódź?

Not necessarily. As a rule of thumb, a transfer normally works when no more than two exams are still outstanding and their ECTS credits stay below a maximum. Open subjects are either taken at the receiving faculty or closed with a differential exam, so the timing of your last resits matters. Send us your transcript before the next exam session and we will tell you which results still change your entry year.

What does the first consultation involve?

A conversation, nothing more. You tell us where you are in the programme, what you have passed, what is outstanding and where you want to end up. We tell you what looks realistic and which partner universities are worth examining. There is no fee and no obligation to proceed. Most people come away knowing within the hour whether a transfer makes sense for them.
