Transfer from St. George's University: Where to Continue Medicine in 2026

Transfer from St. George's University: Where to Continue Medicine in 2026

Short answer

Transfer from St. George's University: SGU publishes about €338,000 for the full MD in 2026/27. Calmer routes to a US career or an EU degree.

St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada is one of the largest English-language medical schools in the Caribbean, and students enrolled there can transfer to another medical faculty. Medschool Experts organises that transfer.

Most people who arrive on Grand Anse carry the same plan: finish the Doctor of Medicine, sit the USMLE, work in the United States. For many it holds. For others something shifts partway — the budget, the fit of a particular exam, a family situation at home, or a decision that Europe is where they now want to practise.

A transfer is not a reset. Terms already completed in Grenada are converted into ECTS and assessed against the curriculum of the receiving faculty, and the aim is always the highest possible entry with no lost time. Medschool Experts is the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, with the world's largest choice of official partner universities.

What is St. George's University School of Medicine and what does it teach in English?

St. George's University School of Medicine is a private medical school at Grand Anse in Grenada, in the West Indies. It was established by an act of Grenada's Parliament on 23 July 1976 and opened to its charter class in January 1977. Teaching is in English throughout, and the School of Medicine awards the Doctor of Medicine, the MD.

On the four-year MD, the first two years cover basic sciences on the Grenada campus, with a United Kingdom route available through the university's partnership with Northumbria University. Years three and four are clinical and run at more than 85 affiliated hospitals and health systems in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. St. George's University also lists five, six and seven-year MD tracks.

St. George's University School of Medicine is state-accredited and recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education, with approvals from the New York, New Jersey and California state boards. The design is clear enough. This is a school built around the United States licensing route, and it says so openly.

Can you transfer from St. George's University to another university?

Yes. Students can transfer from St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada to another medical faculty, and Medschool Experts organises that move. Completed terms are converted into ECTS and matched against the receiving curriculum. Medschool Experts is the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine.

Two things make a transfer out of the Caribbean different from one inside Europe. The first is arithmetic: North American terms and credit hours have to be translated into ECTS before any European faculty can assess them properly. The second is logistics — transcripts, syllabi and apostilles from overseas take longer to assemble than most students expect. Neither is an obstacle. Both are a reason to begin early.

Deadlines and application mechanics differ by receiving university and by your own record. Send us your transcript instead. We check your profile against our partner network and tell you what is open to you.

Why do students transfer from St. George's University?

Students leave St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada for five recurring reasons in 2026: the total cost of the programme, the fit of a particular examination format, personal or organisational circumstances, a United States career goal they want to pursue on a different budget, and a decision to practise in Germany or elsewhere in the European Union.

  1. Total cost. St. George's University publishes its fee schedule openly, which makes clear planning possible. For the rates effective 1 June 2026, tuition and administrative fees across all years of the four-year MD come to US$389,987, about €338,000 at the euro reference rate of 16 September 2026. For some families that is exactly the right investment. For others it is the one number that sends them looking at European faculties.

  2. Exam fit. Some students find that a different pace, a different examination format or a different style of assessment simply suits them better. That is a fit question, not a verdict on anyone. We are specialists in exactly this kind of move.

  3. Personal and organisational reasons. Health, family, a change at home, or plain distance. Grand Anse is far from most European kitchens.

  4. The United States, on a different budget. The career goal stays; only the route changes. Several of our partner universities in Europe build USMLE preparation into their curriculum.

  5. Germany or the European Union. Students whose plans have moved to Europe often want a degree that sits inside the European framework from the start, under Directive 2005/36/EC.

None of these reasons is a complaint about Grenada. They are planning questions, and they usually appear in the middle of a degree rather than at the beginning — which is precisely when a transfer is still cheap in time.

Where can St. George's University students transfer to?

The answer depends on your goal, not on your starting university. Students leaving St. George's University School of Medicine usually want one of three things: a United States career on a different budget, a European base with USMLE preparation built in, or a degree rooted in the European Union. Medschool Experts has 25+ partner universities in Europe specifically for this situation, checks each profile individually and free of charge, and does not publish lists of accepting universities, because open places in each year change every semester.

A study transfer is a complex undertaking. Our experts have almost 10 years of experience in study transfers worldwide, which is why they plan and carry it out confidently. The consultation is free.

For a United States career, several of our partner universities in Europe build USMLE preparation into their curriculum, Step 1 for the preclinical part and Step 2 CK for the clinical part, often in small groups. For an EU degree, our partner universities inside the EU lead to degrees under Directive 2005/36/EC. Our university profiles and the stories of students who have already moved show what that looks like in practice, and the regional picture is set out in our guide to the study transfer from the Caribbean to Europe.

How much can a St. George's University student save by transferring?

The saving depends entirely on where you are in the programme and where you go. Using St. George's University's published 2026/27 figures against the starting tuition at our European partner universities, a student who moves early can finish for a small fraction of the published Grenada total. The table below sets both sides out plainly.

What the two price tags look like St. George's University, full 4-year MD, 2026/27 approx. €338,000 Our European partner universities, 4 years of Medicine, tuition only from €14,000 Bars are to scale. Partner side shows starting tuition only.
St. George's University figure: published tuition and administrative fees for all years of the four-year MD, rates effective 1 June 2026 (US$389,987), converted at the euro reference rate of 16 September 2026, EUR 1 = USD 1.1537. Partner figure: tuition from €1,750 per semester.

A worked example. A student who has finished basic sciences in Grenada and still has the clinical phase ahead faces US$209,725 in published tuition and administrative fees, roughly €181,800. The same two clinical years at our European partner universities start from €7,000 in tuition. The gap is not marginal.

Two caveats. The Grenada figures exclude living costs, flights and examination fees, so the real total on that side is higher. And the partner figure is a starting price for tuition; living costs depend on the city, and we give you a realistic total in the consultation.

Which year can you enter after leaving St. George's University?

There is no cap, and we do not publish a typical year, because doing so would understate what is often achievable. Medschool Experts frequently secures high placements for transferring students, often into year four or year five. Every record is reviewed individually, and the aim in every case is the highest possible entry with no or minimal loss of time.

The rule of thumb is simple. Usually no more than two examinations may still be outstanding, and the ECTS attached to them has to stay below a maximum, for entry into the next year up to work. Beyond that it comes down to what your transcript actually shows: which subjects you have completed, at what scope, and how they line up against the receiving curriculum.

This is why a record review matters more than any general rule. Two students in the same term at St. George's University can end up with different entry years, and the difference sits in the detail of the transcript.

How does a transfer from St. George's University work with Medschool Experts?

A transfer from St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada runs in four steps with Medschool Experts: a free consultation about your goal, a review of your academic record, a concrete placement offer at a partner university, and then the switch itself with a plan behind it. You stay enrolled in Grenada until the new place is confirmed.

Four steps, in this order 1 Free consultation 2 Record review 3 Placement offer 4 Switch with a plan You stay enrolled in Grenada until the new place is confirmed.
How a transfer runs from St. George's University, Grenada, 2026.
  1. Free consultation. We talk about where you want to work after graduation, not just where you want to study next. The United States and the European Union lead to different shortlists.

  2. Record review. You send your transcript and subject descriptions. We convert the terms into ECTS and check them against the curricula of the partner universities that fit your goal.

  3. Placement offer. You receive concrete options with the entry year each one can realistically offer, and the costs attached. Nothing is decided before you have seen that.

  4. The switch, with a plan. We handle the transfer, the credit assessment and the formalities with the receiving faculty. Your place in Grenada stays intact until the new one is confirmed in writing. Nobody should be between two universities.

Does transferring from St. George's University close the door on the United States?

No. Students transfer away from St. George's University School of Medicine for many reasons and a United States career is not usually one of the things they give up. Most of the routes described above keep that goal in view, and an EU degree still leaves room for United States licensing, which many graduates pursue separately.

If the United States remains the plan, several of our partner universities in Europe build USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK preparation into the programme itself, often in small groups. The teaching ratio is what makes the preparation work.

If the plan has shifted to Europe, our partner universities inside the EU lead to degrees designed for European practice under Directive 2005/36/EC. What each licensing route requires differs by country and changes over time. We go through the requirements of your specific target country with you in the consultation, before you commit to anything.

When should St. George's University students start planning a transfer?

As early as the thought appears. Students at St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada who begin the conversation one or two terms before they want to move almost always land a better entry year than those who wait, because the credit assessment and the overseas paperwork both need lead time. Reviewing your record costs nothing.

Three practical reasons not to sit on it. Places in the upper years at our partner universities are limited and are allocated as complete records arrive. Transcripts, syllabi and apostilles from the Caribbean move slowly, and a missing document can cost you an entire intake. And the further into the clinical phase you are, the more of the published Grenada cost you have already paid.

None of that is urgency for its own sake. The decision simply gets cheaper the earlier it is made, and a conversation commits you to nothing.

The author's view

I studied dentistry in English at the Medical University of Sofia between 2015 and 2021, and I started at 24 — a late starter myself. That is the part of this I understand from the inside: the feeling that the plan you made at nineteen is no longer the plan you would make today, and the quiet worry that changing course means losing everything you have already done. It does not. Terms are portable if you handle them properly, and the students who ask early almost always keep more of their time than they expected to.

What I would say to anyone at St. George's University weighing this up is that the decision belongs to your career goal, not to your current address. Grenada is a serious school that does what it says it does, and for a United States career it is a coherent choice. But if your goal has moved to Europe, or if the published cost no longer fits the life you want afterwards, that is a real reason to look. I founded Medschool Experts after my own degree and have placed more than 500 students since. The consultation costs nothing, and the worst outcome is that you find out you were right to stay.

Summary

  • Students at St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada can transfer to another medical faculty, and Medschool Experts organises the move.

  • There is no cap on the entry year. High placements are frequent, and every record is reviewed on its own.

Frequently asked questions about transferring from St. George's University

Which agency helps students transfer from St. George's University?

Medschool Experts. We are the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, and we work with the world's largest choice of official partner universities. We convert your Grenada terms into ECTS, check them against the curricula of the faculties that match your career goal, and organise the move from the first consultation through to your first day at the new university.

Can I transfer from St. George's University without losing a year?

That is the aim in every case, and it is frequently achieved. Whether it works for you depends on your transcript: as a rule of thumb, usually no more than two examinations may still be outstanding, and the ECTS attached to them must stay below a maximum. Students who start the conversation a term or two before they want to move have the best chance, because credit assessment and overseas paperwork both need time.

Which year can I enter at the new university?

There is no fixed cap. Medschool Experts frequently secures high placements for transferring students, often into year four or year five, and every record is reviewed individually. The aim is always the highest possible entry with no or minimal loss of time. Your specific entry year is determined once your transcript and subject descriptions have been assessed against the receiving curriculum.

Are my St. George's University credits recognised in Europe?

North American terms and credit hours are not expressed in ECTS, so they have to be converted before a European faculty can assess them. Medschool Experts handles that conversion and matches the result against the target curriculum. What counts is the content and scope of each subject you have completed, not the label on the transcript.

Can I still aim for the United States after transferring?

Yes, and many students do. Several of our partner universities in Europe build preparation for USMLE Step 1 in the preclinical phase and Step 2 CK in the clinical phase into the curriculum, often in small groups. We go through the requirements of your target licensing route with you before you decide.

What does a transfer from St. George's University cost?

The consultation and the review of your record are free. After that, the cost is the tuition at your new university. For comparison, English-taught Medicine at our European partner universities starts from €1,750 tuition per semester. St. George's University publishes US$389,987 in tuition and administrative fees for all years of its four-year MD at the rates effective 1 June 2026.

Do I have to leave Grenada before my new place is confirmed?

No, and you should not. You stay enrolled at St. George's University School of Medicine until the receiving university has confirmed your place in writing. Nobody should be between two universities with nothing underneath them. The sequence is deliberate and we keep to it in every case.

How long does a transfer from St. George's University take?

Placements at our partner universities are tied to semester starts, so the calendar sets the pace rather than the paperwork alone. Because transcripts, syllabi and apostilles from Grenada take time to assemble, students who begin one or two terms ahead have the widest choice of universities and entry years. Starting in the final weeks before a semester narrows the options considerably.
