Short answer

Osh State University transfer in 2026: failed exams, MBBS credits to ECTS, fees compared and how to continue Medicine in Europe. Free consultation.

Students of Osh State University in Osh, Kyrgyzstan, can transfer to a medical university in Europe in 2026; Medschool Experts plans and carries out the transfer, and the consultation is free.

Most of the messages we get from Osh arrive late in the evening, Kyrgyz time, after the hostel has gone quiet. They tend to start the same way: a screenshot of a transcript, a list of subjects in hours, and one question about whether the semesters already done can still count somewhere in Europe. Usually they can.

This guide explains how a transfer from Osh State University works in 2026: what happens after failed exams, how your hours turn into ECTS credits, what studying at our European partner universities costs and how long the whole move takes.

Written by Marcel Kloos, founder and owner of Medschool Experts and a federally recognised dentist. He studied dentistry at the Medical University of Sofia from 2015 to 2021 and, together with his team, has placed more than 500 students.

Last reviewed: October 2026.

Is a transfer from Osh State University possible in 2026?

Yes. A transfer from Osh State University to a medical university in Europe is possible in 2026. Students of the English-taught General Medicine programme in Osh can move their passed subjects to a European faculty, which checks the transcript and decides the entry year. Medschool Experts plans and carries out this transfer, and the consultation is free.

OshSU is one of the oldest universities in southern Kyrgyzstan. It started in 1939 as a teacher-training institute and received university status in 1992, the same year its Medical Faculty was founded. The International Medical Faculty followed in 2015 and teaches General Medicine entirely in English.

Osh is the country's second-largest city, a one-hour flight from Bishkek, with Sulaiman-Too mountain in the middle of town. Many international students, a large number of them from India and Pakistan, spend six years here.

Failed exams or a failed year at Osh State University: what now?

A failed exam or a failed year at Osh State University does not end a medical career. In 2026 many students who repeat a year in Osh choose a transfer instead, because their passed subjects can count at a European faculty. Medschool Experts checks every case individually, and the first consultation is free.

Exam trouble rarely has a single cause. Some students arrive straight from school and need two semesters to find a rhythm in oral exams and colloquia. Others do well in anatomy and biochemistry, then struggle once clinical subjects begin. And sometimes life gets in the way: a family emergency at home, money running short in the third year, a long winter alone.

None of this says anything about your ability as a future doctor. What matters now is timing. The earlier we see your transcript, the more options stay open, and the better the chance of keeping your year.

Act before the repeat year starts.

Why do students consider a transfer from Osh State University?

Students consider a transfer from Osh State University for personal reasons: a budget that no longer works, language on the hospital wards, a difficult exam rhythm, or a career goal in Europe, the UK, the USA or the Gulf. In 2026 Medschool Experts sees all five reasons regularly in its consultations.

  • Budget. Tuition of about USD 3,800–4,500 a year plus flights home adds up over six years, especially when the exchange rate of the som or the rupee moves against you.
  • Language in the clinical years. Lectures are in English, but patients in Osh speak Kyrgyz, Uzbek or Russian. Some students find bedside learning hard without these languages.
  • Exam rhythm. Frequent oral exams and module tests suit some people and wear others down.
  • Career goal. A student who wants to work in Europe, the UK, the USA or the Gulf may prefer to finish with a European degree.
  • Distance and family. Being closer to relatives in Europe or the Middle East matters more than many expect.

Each of these is a question of fit between one student and one place. The university in Osh has trained doctors since 1992; a transfer simply moves you to a setting that suits your next years better.

A note for students from India

Under the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations 2021, India's National Medical Commission requires the whole course, training and internship to be completed at the same foreign institution for the Indian licence. A transfer therefore suits students whose career goal lies in Europe, the UK, the USA or the Gulf. We check every Indian case individually in the free consultation.

How are credits from Osh State University recognised at a European university?

Credits from Osh State University are recognised course by course. The European faculty compares your transcript and the syllabi of each passed subject with its own curriculum, looking at content and teaching hours. Since 1 ECTS credit stands for 25 to 30 hours of student workload, the hours on a transcript from Osh can be converted.

In practice the receiving faculty wants three things: an official transcript with grades and hours, the syllabus of every subject, and proof of your current status. Anatomy, histology, physiology and biochemistry usually match well. Subjects that only exist in the Kyrgyz curriculum, such as the history of Kyrgyzstan or the Kyrgyz language, normally do not count towards Medicine.

One rule of thumb runs through almost every case we handle: usually no more than two exams may still be open, and the credits of those open exams must stay below a maximum set by the receiving faculty. Faculties often place students into high years. Every case is still checked on its own.

How transfers work in other systems

Inside the EU, credits follow the European Credit Transfer System: a full academic year equals 60 ECTS, so a third-year student brings roughly 120 ECTS of potential credit. In the UK, 120 national credits equal 60 ECTS, but UK medical schools take very few transfer students into later years. In the USA, transfers from abroad into medical school are almost unheard of; international graduates finish their degree first and then sit the USMLE Steps. For a student from Osh, a European faculty is therefore the most realistic place to carry credits forward.

Which universities accept transfer students from Osh State University?

Several European medical universities accept transfer students from Osh State University, but which one fits depends on your transcript, budget and career goal. Medschool Experts does not publish lists, because capacities in each year change every semester. We have partner universities in Europe specifically for transfer students and match each case individually.

A study transfer is a complex undertaking. Our experts have almost 10 years of experience in study transfers worldwide, which is why they plan and carry it out confidently. The consultation is free.

There is one limitation we always mention: places in higher years open and close at short notice. A seat that exists in March may be gone by July. That is why we look at your documents early and keep two or three options running in parallel.

What does studying in Europe cost compared with Osh State University?

Tuition at Osh State University is about USD 3,800–4,500 per year in 2026 (approx. €3,300–3,900). English-taught programmes at our European partner universities start from €1,750 tuition per semester for Medicine and Dentistry, from €1,500 for Pharmacy and from €3,000 for Veterinary Medicine.

Kyrgyzstan MBBS fees look low at first sight, and living costs in Osh are modest: a hostel bed costs around USD 600 a year. Over six years, though, flights, visa extensions and exchange-rate swings add up. In Europe, tuition starts at a comparable level while the degree is issued inside the EU.

Living costs in Europe vary by city. We give you a realistic monthly figure for each option during the consultation.

Can I transfer from Osh State University without losing a year?

Yes, in many cases a transfer from Osh State University works without losing a year. In 2026 Medschool Experts helps with the application without loss of time, provided your documents are ready early and no more than two exams are open. The receiving faculty decides the entry year after checking your credits.

Losing a year usually happens for one of three reasons: the transcript arrives too late, syllabi are missing, or the student waits for a resit that then fails. Each of these can be planned around.

Students from Osh who contact us in spring, after the winter session, have the most room. Students who write in late August still have chances, but fewer. We see this every year.

What does the 2026 accreditation review in Kyrgyzstan mean for students at Osh State University?

In 2026 Kyrgyzstan required every medical school to pass state accreditation by 1 June 2026. Osh State University is among the institutions that passed the review and continues to train doctors. Students at Osh State University who want a degree issued inside the EU still look at a transfer to Europe.

The Cabinet of Ministers made state accreditation mandatory for all medical colleges and universities. In August 2026 it added that institutions without accreditation may no longer enrol new students and must move their remaining students to licensed medical institutions.

For students in Osh this mostly means certainty. Your current studies continue. A transfer stays a personal choice, driven by your plans, not by the review.

Can I continue from Osh State University towards the USA (USMLE), the UK or the Gulf?

Yes. Students who leave Osh State University for a European partner university can still aim for the USA, the UK or the Gulf. In 2026 several of our partner universities offer very strong USMLE preparation, some with pass rates of up to 100 % in the last two years. Medschool Experts matches you to the right one.

For the USA, what counts is passing USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK, then a residency match. A faculty that builds USMLE preparation into its curriculum saves you a year of self-study.

For the UK, international graduates apply to the General Medical Council after their degree. For the Gulf states, each country licenses doctors through its own health authority, and a European degree is widely accepted there. We tell you which partner fits which goal.

How does a transfer from Osh State University work with Medschool Experts, step by step?

A transfer from Osh State University with Medschool Experts runs in six steps and usually takes 4 to 7 months in 2026. It starts with a free consultation and ends with your first lecture at a European partner university.

  1. Free consultation. We look at your situation, your goal and your timeline.
  2. Transcript and syllabi. You request the official documents from OshSU; we tell you exactly which ones.
  3. Credit check. We compare your subjects with the curricula of suitable partner universities.
  4. Application. We prepare and submit the transfer application with you.
  5. Admission and visa. After the decision on your year, we help with the student visa and residence permit.
  6. Start in Europe. You begin in the semester the faculty has confirmed.

Most of the waiting sits in steps 2 and 5. Documents from Osh sometimes need a few weeks, and visa appointments depend on the embassy.

Which documents do I need for a transfer from Osh State University?

For a transfer from Osh State University you need an official transcript with grades and teaching hours, the syllabus of each passed subject, a certificate of enrolment, your school-leaving certificate and your passport. In 2026 Medschool Experts tells you which translations and legalisations your target country needs.

Ask the dean's office for the transcript in English. If it exists only in Russian or Kyrgyz, a sworn translation is needed. Keep scans of everything; originals sometimes travel by courier, and a courier from Osh to Europe takes time.

The author's view

I started studying at the Medical University of Sofia in 2015, at 24, older than most people in my year. I remember how long the first winter felt, and how much it mattered to have someone who knew the system. That is still the reason Medschool Experts exists.

Transcripts from Kyrgyzstan look different from European ones. Subjects are listed in hours, sometimes only in Russian, and a single course may be split across several semesters. The first job is almost always translation in the wider sense: turning a list from Osh into something a dean's office in Europe can read in ten minutes.

My advice is simple. Do not wait for the last resit to decide. Send us your documents while you still have a choice, and let us show you what your semesters in Osh are worth.

Summary

  • Students of Osh State University can transfer to a medical university in Europe in 2026, and Medschool Experts plans and carries out the transfer.
  • Tuition at Osh State University is about USD 3,800–4,500 per year (approx. €3,300–3,900) for the six-year General Medicine programme in English.
  • English-taught programmes at our European partner universities start from €1,750 per semester for Medicine and Dentistry, €1,500 for Pharmacy and €3,000 for Veterinary Medicine.
  • Credits are recognised course by course; teaching hours are converted into ECTS, and usually no more than two exams may still be open.
  • Indian students should know the 2021 National Medical Commission rule, which ties the Indian licence to studying at one institution.
  • A transfer usually takes 4 to 7 months, and the consultation is free.

Conclusion

Leaving Osh State University is rarely an easy decision. Most students who write to us have already invested two or three years in Osh, and they want those years to count. With a clean transcript, complete syllabi and a few months of lead time, they usually do.

Medschool Experts has almost 10 years of experience in study transfers worldwide and partner universities in Europe for exactly this case. The first consultation is free.

Will I lose a year if I transfer from Osh State University?

Not necessarily. Many students keep their year, especially when they apply early and no more than two exams are open. Faculties often place transfer students into high years. The receiving faculty decides the entry year after comparing your transcript and syllabi with its curriculum.

A transfer therefore suits students aiming for Europe, the UK, the USA or the Gulf. We check every Indian case individually.

Today Marcel lives in Bern and runs Medschool Experts full-time. He visits every partner university in person, negotiates placement agreements directly with faculties and deans, and leads the free consultations in which applicants learn at which university they can start next semester.
