A pre-med or foundation programme covers biology, chemistry, physics and medical English. Programmes that start in January or February close the gap between the autumn intake you missed and the next one.

Start: Early January for the 1-semester intensive track. The 2-semester track starts in late August or early September.
Subjects: Biology, chemistry, physics and medical English.
Requirements: School-leaving certificate without failed results and English at B1 or B2 level. No entrance exam for the course itself.
Leads to: Preparation for the entrance examinations of Hungarian medical universities such as Semmelweis, Szeged and Pécs, for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine.
Good to know: The intensive track suits applicants who already have a science background and good English and want to refresh it quickly.

Duna International CollegeStarts January / FebruaryBudapest, Hungary

Start: The intensive one-semester course starts in the new year, the 3-semester programme starts in February.
Subjects: Biology including anatomy and physiology, chemistry, medical terminology, academic and medical English.
Requirements: High-school diploma. An intermediate level of English is recommended. No entrance exam.
Leads to: Preparation for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine at European universities.
Good to know: The 3-semester route is built for students who want a gentler pace, more repetition and regular progress checks.

Charles University, 3rd Faculty of MedicineStarts JanuaryPrague, Czech Republic

Start: January, running until May (5 months).
Subjects: Biology, chemistry and physics, plus basics of Czech and medical English.
Tuition: Approx. 4,550 EUR for the course. Accommodation, textbooks, meals and health insurance are not included.
Leads to: Preparation for entry into the English-taught General Medicine programme at the faculty.

University of Debrecen: Intensive Foundation SemesterStarts FebruaryDebrecen, Hungary

Start: February, running until June (one semester).
For whom: Students who need additional preparation in the science subjects before they start the English-language medical programme.
Language: English

University of Health Sciences AntiguaFlexible startOnline, Antigua and Barbuda

Format: Online pre-medical programme with 90 credits, about 1 to 1.5 years depending on your pace.
Start: The university admits throughout the year, so you do not have to wait for an autumn intake.
Requirements: High-school diploma or equivalent, at least a C in English, mathematics and chemistry, and a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Leads to: Successful completion guarantees entry into the Doctor of Medicine at UHSA. One year of the clinical part can be completed in the USA.

Medical University of Łódź: Pre-Med YearStart on requestŁódź, Poland

Duration: 8 months with about 960 academic hours.
Subjects: Biology 160 hours, chemistry 160 hours, physics 128 hours, medical English 280 hours, Polish 140 hours, plus anatomy, academic skills and basic life support.
Requirements: High-school diploma with extended knowledge in two of chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics and English. No entrance exam for the pre-med year.

Frequently asked questions

Why start a pre-med programme in January?

Most medical degrees start in autumn. If you missed that intake or were not admitted, a programme that starts in January or February lets you use the winter productively instead of waiting a full year.

Does a pre-med programme guarantee a place in medicine?

Not every programme does. At the University of Health Sciences Antigua, successful completion guarantees entry into its Doctor of Medicine. Other programmes prepare you for the entry procedure of the university or of other universities. In your consultation we tell you which type each programme is.

Which programme is right for me?

If you already have a science background and good English, a one-semester intensive course is enough. If you want more time and repetition, a longer programme such as the 3-semester route in Budapest fits better. We match the programme to your certificates.

Do I need an entrance exam to start?

For several of the programmes above, such as McDaniel, Duna, Łódź and Antigua, there is no entrance exam for the pre-med course itself. We confirm the requirements for your programme in the consultation.

What does it cost?

The 5-month course in Prague costs approx. 4,550 EUR. For the other programmes we give you the current tuition in your consultation. Antigua offers reduced tuition when you apply through us.

Can I prepare for dentistry, pharmacy or veterinary medicine as well?

Yes. Several of these programmes prepare for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine. Tell us your goal and we choose accordingly.
