What has been agreed?
Since 2025, Medschool Experts has been working with Horbach Ärztefinanz, a financial services provider specialising in the academic healthcare professions. Students who obtain a study place abroad through Medschool Experts can use this cooperation to obtain financing advice tailored to their own situation.
Why the topic has gained weight
For many years, German education funds were the most important financing instrument for studying medicine abroad. Because interest rates have risen, Chancen eG and Deutsche Bildung have stopped accepting new applicants for an indefinite period. That has removed one of the load-bearing elements.
What remains has to be combined properly:
- Auslands-BAföG — German state student funding for studies abroad, with a maximum rate of €992 per month, plus a tuition fee contribution of up to €5,600 and a travel allowance of €250 paid twice
- Kindergeld — German child benefit of €259 per month, for as long as the German residence is maintained and the age limit of 25 is not exceeded
- Holiday work — with four to five months outside the lecture period, experience shows €2,000 to €3,500 per year
- Student loans — from Sparkasse Herford and apoBank, among others
What the cooperation provides
The cooperation addresses exactly the point at which advice regularly gets stuck: not the question of which university is the right one, but how six years of study can actually be financed all the way through — including the years after the one-off tuition fee contribution has run out.
For transparency: Medschool Experts does not broker financial products itself. Advice and brokerage are provided by the partners licensed to do so. Access through us is free of charge for our students, and they decide independently whether to enter into any agreement.

The loss of the education funds was a turning point for our industry. At times, an estimated 80 per cent of all German medical students abroad financed through an education fund came from us. When that route closed, we had to put the financing question on a new footing.
That is precisely why this cooperation exists. I see no point in leaving prospective students alone with a list of possible sources of money. Working through the elements with a specialist — using a family's real figures — is a different matter from a fact sheet.
And let me also say what I do not do: I do not sell financial products, and I do not tell anyone to take on a loan they will not be able to carry later. When the numbers do not add up, the honest answer is sometimes a more affordable location — not a bigger loan.
