The 2025 Merger: Three Universities Became One

On September 1, 2025, the Tashkent Medical Academy, the Tashkent Pediatric Medical Institute, and the Tashkent State Dental Institute were merged by government decree into the new Tashkent State Medical University. The Urgench branch of the Tashkent Medical Academy was simultaneously separated as an independent Urgench State Medical Institute.

Many international intermediary portals continue to list the three old names to this day. Anyone encountering an offer with one of these names should ask which institution actually stands behind it today. The official domains of the new university are tashmeduni.uz and tsmu.co.uz.

How much does the program cost?

Tuition fees are around 2,500 to 4,500 US dollars per academic year, equivalent to approximately 2,300 to 4,100 euros. Additionally there are dormitory costs of 50 to 80 US dollars per month and visa and registration fees of 500 to 600 US dollars per year. Those living privately should budget 600 to 800 euros per month in Tashkent.

Only the fee of Andijan State Medical Institute is directly verifiable from a university source: 3,500 US dollars plus 350 US dollars service fee per academic year. All other amounts come from intermediary portals and vary by up to 30 percent.

Admission, Language, and Program Structure

No numerus clausus. Requirements are a school leaving certificate with physics, chemistry, and biology, usually at least 50 percent in these subjects, and a minimum age of 17. Most institutions require no IELTS or TOEFL certificate, but there is an online interview. The program lasts six years, dentistry five.

Important: Tashkent State Medical University explicitly states that admission interviews may not be conducted by agencies, and that the student visa must go through the university — not a tourist visa.

What is the degree worth in Germany?

Uzbekistan is not an EU member. The degree is followed by an equivalence assessment, otherwise a knowledge examination, and then licensing. Details are in the article Approbation and Recognition.

Also decisive is the listing in the World Directory of Medical Schools. Most state and a large portion of private institutions are listed there — but some of the newest foundations are not. The phrase "WHO approved" on intermediary portals does not replace this check.

Who is suited for Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is hard to beat on price, and the traditional state institutions provide solid training. Anyone who later wants to work in German-speaking countries should clarify the recognition question and the listing status of their university in advance.
