Press release: Medschool Experts becomes an official partner of the Lanka Hospitals group in Sri Lanka

Colombo/Bern, 18 June 2026 — Since June 2026, Medschool Experts has been an official partner of the hospital group The Lanka Hospitals Corporation PLC in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The placements on offer are internships, clinical clerkships, nursing placements and rotations of the German final practical year — with structured mentoring and all communication entirely in English. On completion, participants receive a certificate.

What has been agreed?

Since June 2026, Medschool Experts has been working officially with the Lanka Hospitals Corporation PLC in Colombo. The cooperation covers the placement of clinical training rotations for students supported by Medschool Experts:

  • Internships in various specialist departments
  • Clinical clerkships
  • Nursing placements
  • Rotations of the final practical year

Supervision is provided through the hospital group's own Training Academy.

Why Sri Lanka — and why this hospital?

Lanka Hospitals is a private tertiary care hospital with around 350 beds and a broad range of specialties. It was the first hospital in Sri Lanka to receive accreditation from the Joint Commission International, and it has been continuously accredited since 2014. That is the most widely used international quality standard for hospitals anywhere.

The second point is language. Communication with colleagues and with patients takes place entirely in English. Anyone doing a clerkship abroad otherwise tends to lose half of the learning benefit to the language barrier — here there is none. For students who are studying in English anyway, this is a direct continuation of their everyday academic life.

The third point is mentoring. The rotations are structured and supervised, not organised as sitting and watching. On completion, participants receive a certificate from the hospital group.

On recognition in Germany

Under the German Medical Licensing Regulations (Ärztliche Approbationsordnung), clinical clerkships and nursing placements may be completed abroad. The conditions are that the institution is under medical management and that the activity is properly certified.

For the final practical year, the responsible state examination office decides whether a rotation completed abroad is recognised. We clarify that approval together with our students before they start — not afterwards. That is the point at which rotations abroad otherwise regularly come apart.

What this means for our students

A clinical rotation in a different healthcare system changes the way you see your own profession more than any lecture can. You see clinical pictures that are rare in Central Europe, work with different resources, and learn to make medical decisions under different conditions.

That is exactly what this cooperation is about: giving our students the chance to discover the world — affordably, with structured supervision, and with a rotation that counts in the end.

Assessment by Marcel Kloos

Clinical clerkships abroad are almost always a good idea — and almost always badly organised. I know plenty of students who spent three weeks getting in the way because nobody was responsible for them and nobody spoke their language. That is why two things mattered to me in this cooperation: a hospital with international accreditation, and a training structure that deserves the name.

The language point is the most underrated of them all. English as the working language throughout means you can genuinely think along on ward rounds instead of merely listening. Anyone studying in English through us can make use of such a rotation from day one.

And on recognition, I tell everyone the same thing. A rotation abroad has to be approved beforehand, not submitted afterwards. For the final practical year the state examination office decides, and it does not like doing so retroactively. We settle that in advance, because otherwise it becomes the most expensive experience of an entire degree.
