What has been agreed?
The Medical University of Varna is a state university. It approached Medschool Experts and offered an official partnership; Medschool Experts accepted.
The agreement follows years of working together. Over that time, Medschool Experts has placed several hundred students from across the German-speaking region at the university — from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
The location
The Medical University of Varna offers human medicine, dentistry and pharmacy entirely in English, with an annual fee of €10,000. The programme has a broad international intake, with students from more than 50 countries; clinical training takes place at several of the city's university and teaching hospitals.
Varna is Bulgaria's third-largest city and sits directly on the Black Sea. The airport is eight kilometres from the campus, and Wizz Air flies there from Memmingen and Dortmund in around 2 hours 45 minutes. Free time includes windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing at Golden Sands — sailing certificates can be obtained locally.
On recognition
Bulgaria has been a member of the European Union since 1 January 2007. The degree is automatically recognised in Germany, Austria and the other member states under Directive 2005/36/EC, with no equivalence or aptitude examination required. For Switzerland, the Agreement on the Free Movement of Persons applies, with licensing through MEBEKO.
Bulgaria has used the euro since 1 January 2026. That removes any currency risk across the six years of study.
