Where can you study medicine in Portugal?

The programme lasts six years and leads to an EU degree. Instruction is predominantly in Portuguese; at the private university partly in English.

Why do students transfer out of Portugal?

From the third year onwards, language determines how much you actually absorb at the bedside. Those who find themselves merely observing will find better conditions at a university with fully English-language clinical training.

Over six years of study, private tuition fees add up to a high six-figure sum. When financing falls through, changing location determines whether the degree continues.

One subject becomes the bottleneck

Failing an exam often means losing an entire academic year. What you have already passed travels with you; an outstanding subject is completed at the new university.

You will not find a checklist, a document list or a set of dates on this page, and that is deliberate. What each university wants to see differs from one institution to the next and changes from year to year — and a move planned around an outdated detail costs exactly the time you were trying to save.

Where can you transfer to from Portugal?

MediCampus Europeo, Malta

University of East Sarajevo, Faculty of Medicine Foča (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

State faculty with its own university hospital, medicine and dentistry in English, listed in ANABIN, EU-compliant accreditation until 2033. 3,500 EUR per academic year, academic year beginning in November, practical year optionally completed entirely at a German teaching hospital. University of Niš, Faculty of Medicine (Serbia)

The level of placement depends on the individual case

All pathways mentioned here are designed to achieve the highest possible year placement for you through us — with no or minimal loss of time. What that means concretely differs from person to person, and we would rather look at your situation than publish a rule that fits nobody. What the transfer means financially

Tuition fees at private Portuguese universities are significantly higher than what Foča charges at 3,500 EUR and Niš at 6,000 EUR per academic year. Over four remaining years of study, that is a five-figure difference, plus lower living costs of 450 to 500 EUR per month. Our placement fee is success-based: if no study place is secured, no costs arise for you.

Why you should seek advice as early as possible

• Places are limited. In higher years, a place only comes up when one becomes free — the earlier we know about you, the more options remain open.
• The academic years start at different times. Malta begins in October, Foča in November, Niš runs on a quarterly rhythm. The more lead time we have, the more calmly the move can be arranged.
• Being enrolled is the better starting position — so have the conversation before the next resit rather than after it.
