The 2026 Accreditation Wave — The Most Important Point First

In 2026, the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health reviewed all medical training institutions in the country. The result: 14 institutions may continue to teach medicine, some of them only with a one-year provisional accreditation. Thirteen universities failed; their students are being redistributed to other institutions.

The problem for international applicants: several of the affected universities are still being advertised on international placement portals. Before any application, check the current accreditation status — and obtain written confirmation from the university itself.

Which Universities in Kyrgyzstan Are Fully Accredited?

• Osh State University, Medical Faculty, Osh — approximately 4,000 US dollars per academic year.
• International School of Medicine at the International University of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek — approximately 8,000 US dollars.
• International Higher School of Medicine, Bishkek — approximately 6,700 US dollars.
• S. Tentishev Asian International University (Asian Medical Institute), Kant — approximately 3,400 to 4,200 US dollars.

Via Bilateral Agreements

• Kyrgyz State Medical Academy I. K. Akhunbaev, Bishkek — the country's traditional state institution, approximately 5,200 US dollars.
• Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, Bishkek
• Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, Bishkek

Other institutions — including in Jalal-Abad, Karakol, and Osh — have received only a one-year provisional accreditation. Their future beyond that period remains uncertain.

What Does the Degree Cost?

Fees range from approximately 3,400 to 8,000 US dollars per academic year. The programme lasts five years plus one year of internship. Be cautious with portal figures: some sites quote total costs over the full programme duration as an annual amount. Only written confirmation from the university is reliable.

Language, Admission and Daily Life

Instruction is in English, with no mandatory language test. In the clinical phase, Russian or Kyrgyz is effectively required at the bedside — there is no binding curricular requirement for this, but practice makes it clear. Living costs are among the lowest in the world.

What Is the Degree Worth in Germany?

Kyrgyzstan is not an EU member and — unlike Georgia, Armenia or Azerbaijan — is also not a member of the European Higher Education Area. Formally, Kyrgyzstan has the AAEPO, a national agency recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education. However, the 2026 review wave demonstrates how unevenly quality is distributed across the country.

For Whom Kyrgyzstan Is Suitable — And For Whom It Is Not

Price is the strongest argument, and the four fully accredited institutions provide solid training. For applicants who wish to work in German-speaking countries later, however, the combination of third-country status, non-EHEA membership, and volatile accreditation is a substantial risk.
