Why study medicine in the Czech Republic in English

Czech medical faculties have taught international students in English for decades. The classes are mixed: Britons, Germans, Scandinavians, Israelis, Americans. In Brno the pre-clinical years take place on one campus next to the University Hospital, so the way from the anatomy hall to the ward is a five-minute walk. Hradec Králové is smaller and quieter. Students there know their lecturers by name, and the lecturers know theirs.

  • EU degree: relevant European qualification for the GMC, no PLAB
  • Medicine in English from the first lecture to the state exam
  • Recruiters from UK trusts and universities visit Masaryk students in Brno
  • Brno is the second-largest Czech city, with Vienna and Prague a train ride away

  • Masaryk University: science entrance test, which you sit through Medschool Experts

  • A valid passport; we arrange the long-stay student visa with you after admission

Back to the UK with a Czech medical degree

The Czech Republic is a member of the EU and the EEA. Your diploma is a relevant European qualification, and the GMC registers you without PLAB. Foundation Programme places go first to graduates of UK and Irish medical schools, so most returners enter the NHS with full registration in a post at FY2 level or above. Dentists register with the GDC; the current arrangements for EEA dental degrees run until June 2028. The full route is in our guide to GMC registration after studying medicine abroad.

Medschool Experts was founded by Marcel Kloos, a federally recognised dentist in Switzerland who went to Shrewsbury School in England at 16 and later studied in English at the Medical University of Sofia. More than 500 students have started their studies with us. Book your free consultation.
