Short answer

Transfer from Windsor University School of Medicine in St. Kitts: options in the Caribbean and Europe from €1,750 per semester. Free consultation.

Windsor University School of Medicine in Cayon, on the island of Saint Kitts in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, teaches its Doctor of Medicine programme in English — and students who are enrolled there can transfer to another medical university, with Medschool Experts organising the move from first conversation to enrolment.

Most people who start in the Caribbean already have the United States in view. That is exactly what these programmes are built for. Career plans shift, though, and budgets shift with them, and a student who begins with one destination in mind sometimes finishes with another. A transfer is a planning decision, not a verdict on the school.

Medschool Experts is the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, with the world’s largest choice of official partner universities. We review each record individually and look for the highest entry year the transcript supports. Our services page describes how that works, and student stories show what it looks like in practice.

Last reviewed: September 2026.

What is Windsor University School of Medicine and what does it teach in English?

Windsor University School of Medicine, founded in 2000 in Cayon on the island of Saint Kitts, in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, teaches a Doctor of Medicine programme entirely in English. The course runs over eleven terms, three per calendar year: five terms of basic sciences on the island campus, then 72 weeks of clinical clerkships.

The school is chartered and state-accredited in Saint Kitts and Nevis, under a framework recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). Windsor University School of Medicine is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. Graduates are eligible for certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Intakes run three times a year, in January, May and September. The structure is the classic Caribbean one. Basic sciences on the island, clinical years in United States hospitals, USMLE along the way.

Can you transfer from Windsor University School of Medicine to another university?

Yes. A student enrolled at Windsor University School of Medicine in Saint Kitts and Nevis can transfer to another medical university, either elsewhere in the Caribbean or in Europe. Medschool Experts is the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, and works with the world’s largest choice of official partner universities.

What makes a transfer work is documentation. Your transcript, the content and scope of each subject you have passed, and the results behind them decide which year a receiving university can offer. We handle that mapping. You can see the full range of destinations on our university overview.

Why do students transfer from Windsor University School of Medicine?

Students who leave Windsor University School of Medicine in Saint Kitts and Nevis usually do so for one of five reasons: the total cost of the programme, a better fit in exam format and pace, personal or organisational circumstances, a sharper focus on the United States route, or a decision to hold an EU degree at the end.

Cost. Caribbean programmes sit at the upper end of the international price range once tuition, term fees, island living and United States clinical rotations are added together. Some students decide part-way through that a lower-cost university serves the same goal.

Exam format and pace. A curriculum that works for one student can sit awkwardly with another. Some universities examine in smaller units, others in large blocks. Moving to a rhythm that suits you is a legitimate reason to switch, and it is one of the things we are specialists in.

Personal or organisational circumstances. Family matters, distance from home, or a difficulty with an individual course arrangement can make continuing in one place impractical. That says nothing about the quality of the teaching.

A sharper United States focus. Caribbean medical schools help students into the United States system through USMLE, United States clinical rotations and residency applications. Some students want that preparation structured differently, in smaller groups, closer to Europe.

An EU degree. A student who expects to work in the European Union may prefer to finish with a degree issued inside the EU. That is a planning choice made at the start of the clinical phase, not a criticism of the Caribbean model.

None of these reasons is about the school being wrong. They are about fit: cost, format, geography, and where you want to hold a licence in ten years.

Where can Windsor University School of Medicine students transfer to?

Students leaving Windsor University School of Medicine in Saint Kitts and Nevis generally choose between four directions: another Caribbean medical school, a more affordable European partner university, a European partner university with structured USMLE preparation, or an EU partner university whose degree is recognised automatically under Directive 2005/36/EC.

Medschool Experts organises these transfers to more than 25 partner universities in Europe that we work with specifically for this situation. Which of them fits depends on your record, your goal and the year you can realistically enter, so we check every profile individually and free of charge. We do not publish lists of accepting universities. A study transfer is a complex undertaking. Our experts have almost 10 years of experience in study transfers worldwide, which is why they plan and carry it out confidently. The consultation is free.

The USMLE route deserves a note of its own. Some of our European partner universities prepare students specifically for USMLE Step 1, covering the preclinical material, and USMLE Step 2 CK, covering the clinical material. Teaching happens in small groups and places are limited, so timing matters. Whether such a place fits your record is something we check individually and free of charge.

For the European route with an EU degree, an EU partner university keeps your qualification within automatic recognition across the European Union. If you want the wider picture for the region, our article on study transfers from the Caribbean sets out the options side by side.

How much can a Windsor University School of Medicine student save by transferring?

Windsor University School of Medicine publishes a term-based fee structure in United States dollars. Basic-sciences terms MD 1 to MD 4 are charged at USD 7,190 each, MD 5 at USD 8,840, and clinical terms MD 6 to MD 11 at USD 11,490 each, under the fee structure applicable as of 1 May 2024. Three terms run per calendar year.

Converted at EUR 1 = USD 1.1537 (16 September 2026). One-time and phase-specific charges published separately by the university — enrolment, seat reservation, visa, transport, malpractice and health insurance, the exit OSCE and the degree fee — come on top.

Take a student who has finished the basic-sciences phase and has three study years left. At our European partner universities, tuition for those three years starts from €10,500 in total (from €1,750 per semester, 2026). The same three years on the Windsor clinical schedule are charged at roughly €29,900 per year in term charges alone, before accommodation in the United States. The gap is substantial.

Living costs on Saint Kitts are not published by the university; ask Windsor University School of Medicine directly for a current estimate. Our own fee is success-based. No placement, no cost.

Which year can you enter after leaving Windsor University School of Medicine?

There is no cap. Medschool Experts frequently achieves high placements for students leaving Windsor University School of Medicine in Saint Kitts and Nevis, often into year four or year five. Every case is reviewed individually, and the aim is always the highest possible entry with no or minimal loss of time.

The rule of thumb we work with: usually no more than two examinations may still be outstanding, and their ECTS must stay below a maximum. Beyond that, what decides the year is content. Which subjects you have passed, at what depth, with what documented hours. A student who has completed all five basic-sciences terms at Windsor arrives in a very different position from one who is halfway through the second.

We never promise an entry year before we have read the transcript. We also never set an upper limit in advance.

How does a transfer from Windsor University School of Medicine work with Medschool Experts?

A transfer from Windsor University School of Medicine runs in four steps with Medschool Experts: a free consultation, a review of your academic record, a placement offer naming universities and entry year, and the switch itself. You stay enrolled at Windsor University School of Medicine until the new place is confirmed.

How do Windsor University School of Medicine students keep a United States career on track after a transfer?

Students who transfer from Windsor University School of Medicine in Saint Kitts and Nevis and still want to practise in the United States need a university whose teaching supports USMLE preparation. Within Europe, some of our partner universities prepare specifically for USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK, which is why they come up so often in these conversations.

The practical question is sequencing. If you have already passed a USMLE step, that result stays with you; it belongs to you, not to the school where you studied. If you have not yet sat one, choosing a university that teaches with the exam in mind changes how the next three years feel. Small groups help here, and they mean a limited number of places each year.

A student who wants both doors open — the United States and Europe — usually looks at an EU degree from one of our EU partner universities, since an EU qualification travels widely and does not close off a later United States application. Which university fits better depends on your record and your timing. That is a conversation, not a formula. A study transfer is a complex undertaking. Our experts have almost 10 years of experience in study transfers worldwide, which is why they plan and carry it out confidently. The consultation is free.

When should Windsor University School of Medicine students start planning a transfer?

As early as the question comes up. A student at Windsor University School of Medicine in Saint Kitts and Nevis who asks about transferring one or two terms before the intended move has far more room than one who asks three weeks beforehand, because credit assessment, document translation and intake dates all need lead time.

Intakes at European partner universities run on fixed cycles, and places go in order of complete applications. Transcripts and apostilles from overseas take longer than people expect. Starting the review early costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

If you are turning the question over now, that is the right moment. Book a free consultation and we will tell you what your record supports.

The author's view

I studied dentistry in English at the Medical University of Sofia between 2015 and 2021, and I started at 24, which made me a late starter among my year. That experience shapes how I look at a transfer request from the Caribbean. Nobody writes to us because their school is bad. They write because something in the plan has changed — the budget, the country they now picture themselves working in, or the way a particular exam format sits with them. Those are ordinary reasons, and they deserve an ordinary, practical answer rather than a lecture.

What I tell students from Windsor University School of Medicine is the same thing I tell everyone: send the transcript first, decide second. I am the founder and owner of Medschool Experts and a federally recognised dentist, and I have placed more than 500 students. The single most common misjudgement I see is people assuming their completed terms count for less than they do. They usually count for more. If the United States is still the goal, some of our European partner universities are built around USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK. If an EU degree matters, our EU partner universities provide exactly that. Which of those is right for you is a question of documents, not of opinion. Send them over and we will look.

  • Students enrolled there can transfer to another medical university, in the Caribbean or in Europe, and Medschool Experts organises the move.
  • The usual reasons are total cost, a better fit in exam format and pace, personal circumstances, a sharper focus on the United States route, or the wish to finish with an EU degree.

Frequently asked questions about transferring from Windsor University School of Medicine

Which agency helps students transfer from Windsor University School of Medicine?

Medschool Experts. We are the leading specialist for study transfers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, with the world’s largest choice of official partner universities. We review your Windsor University School of Medicine record individually, identify the universities that fit your goal, and manage the move from the first conversation to enrolment. The initial consultation and the record review are free.

Can I transfer from Windsor University School of Medicine without losing a year?

That is the aim in every case. We look for the highest possible entry with no or minimal loss of time, and high placements into year four or year five happen frequently. What decides it is your documented transcript: which subjects you passed, at what depth, with what results. As a rule of thumb, usually no more than two examinations may be outstanding and their ECTS must stay below a maximum.

Where can I transfer to from Windsor University School of Medicine?

Four directions come up most often. Another Caribbean medical school, if you want to keep the same United States-oriented structure. A more affordable European partner university, with English-taught Medicine from €1,750 tuition per semester. A European partner university with USMLE-focused teaching. Or an EU partner university for an automatically recognised EU degree. We do not publish lists of accepting universities; we check your profile individually and free of charge.

Do any European universities prepare for the USMLE?

Yes. Some of our European partner universities prepare students specifically for USMLE Step 1, covering the preclinical material, and USMLE Step 2 CK, covering the clinical material. Teaching runs in small groups and places are limited. Whether one of them fits your record from Windsor University School of Medicine is something we check individually.

How much does Windsor University School of Medicine cost compared with a European university?

Windsor University School of Medicine charges USD 7,190 per basic-sciences term and USD 11,490 per clinical term under the fee structure applicable as of 1 May 2024, with three terms per calendar year. Converted at EUR 1 = USD 1.1537 (16 September 2026), that is roughly €18,700 and €29,900 per calendar year. At our European partner universities, English-taught Medicine starts from €1,750 tuition per semester, so from €3,500 per year.

Can I still work in the United States after transferring to Europe?

Yes, and that is a common plan. USMLE results you have already passed stay with you. Some of our European partner universities teach with USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK specifically in view, and an EU degree from one of our EU partner universities keeps European licensing open at the same time. Which fits depends on your record.

Do I have to leave Windsor University School of Medicine before applying?

No. You stay enrolled at Windsor University School of Medicine until the new place is confirmed in writing. That is a fixed part of how Medschool Experts runs a transfer, because it keeps your student status intact while the credit assessment and the intake formalities are completed. Nothing is given up on a maybe.

How are Windsor University credits converted into ECTS?

Windsor University School of Medicine, like most Caribbean schools, uses US-style credit hours rather than ECTS. The receiving faculty does not convert hours one to one; it compares the content of each completed course with its own curriculum, using your official transcript and the course descriptions. Passed courses in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and the other basic sciences are usually the strongest part of a Windsor record. That is why we ask for the course descriptions early: they decide how many subjects are recognised and which year you can enter.

What does the transfer service cost?

The first consultation and the review of your documents are free. Our placement fee is success-based: if no study place comes of it, you pay nothing for the placement. Tuition and living costs at the receiving university are separate and depend on where you go; English-taught Medicine at our European partner universities starts from €1,750 per semester.
