St. George's University School of Medicine is a private medical school at Grand Anse in Grenada, in the West Indies. It was established by an act of Grenada's Parliament on 23 July 1976 and opened to its charter class in January 1977. Teaching is in English throughout, and the School of Medicine awards the Doctor of Medicine, the MD.

On the four-year MD, the first two years cover basic sciences on the Grenada campus, with a United Kingdom route available through the university's partnership with Northumbria University. Years three and four are clinical and run at more than 85 affiliated hospitals and health systems in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. St. George's University also lists five, six and seven-year MD tracks.

On its own pages the university names the Grenada Medical and Dental Council, recognition by the World Federation for Medical Education, and review by the United States National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation, alongside approvals from the New York, New Jersey and California state boards. The design is clear enough. This is a school built around the United States licensing route, and it says so openly.

Where can St. George's University students transfer to?

Medical University of Varna, Bulgaria. Varna sits inside the European Union and teaches in English, which makes it the natural choice for students whose working life is going to happen in Europe. How much can a St. George's University student save by transferring?

The saving depends entirely on where you are in the programme and where you go. Using St. George's University's published 2026/27 figures against the Foča figures for 2026, a student who moves early can finish for a small fraction of the published Grenada total. The table below sets both sides out plainly.

A worked example. A student who has finished basic sciences in Grenada and still has the clinical phase ahead faces US$209,725 in published tuition and administrative fees, roughly €181,800. The same remaining time at Foča, tuition and living together, sits between €15,000 and €22,500. The gap is not marginal.

Two caveats. The Grenada figures exclude living costs, flights and examination fees, so the real total on that side is higher. And the Foča figure is not a quote — it is what our students typically spend.

Which year can you enter after leaving St. George's University?

There is no cap, and we do not publish a typical year, because doing so would understate what is often achievable.
