Study Transfer from Azerbaijan: from Baku and Nakhchivan to Europe

Study Transfer from Azerbaijan: from Baku and Nakhchivan to Europe

Azerbaijan provides solid training, and Baku is a pleasant place to study. Two topics nevertheless regularly prompt students to transfer to Europe: the national language in the clinical phase and the question of what the degree is worth in Germany.

Medschool Experts facilitates study transfers from Azerbaijan to universities in Bosnia, Serbia, Malta, and beyond. Completed courses transfer with you; those who plan early typically lose no academic year.

From which universities do we facilitate transfers?

From all four Azerbaijani universities with international medical programs: Azerbaijan Medical University, Baku State University, Nakhchivan State University, and Khazar University. An overview with tuition fees is in the article Studying Medicine in Azerbaijan.

Why students from Azerbaijan transfer to Europe

Azerbaijani from the fourth year of study onward

Classes are held in English or Russian, but patient contact from the fourth and fifth year of study onward is in Azerbaijani. Those who notice they are only observing at the bedside lose learning time exactly where it matters most.

Accreditation is a case-by-case matter

The country has no accreditation agency of its own recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education. How your university is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and in ANABIN is something we look up for you in the initial consultation.

The recognition pathway is regulated

Azerbaijan is not an EU member and remains a third country. Since the reform of March 2026 this is no longer a disadvantage: from November 1, 2026, the oral knowledge examination under Section 3 of the Federal Medical Licensing Act serves as the standard route to nationwide licensing. Details in the article Approbation and Recognition.

How does the study transfer work?

We handle the transfer for you. Our partner universities include Foča (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Niš (Serbia), and Malta.

Where can you transfer from Azerbaijan?

University of East Sarajevo, Medical Faculty Foča (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

State faculty with its own university hospital, human medicine and dentistry in English, listed in ANABIN, EU-conformally accredited until 2033. 3,500 euros per academic year, start in November, practical year optionally completed entirely at a German teaching hospital. Credit transfers here typically result in very high placement. To the Foča study guide.

MediCampus Europeo, Malta

EU location with English as official language — linguistically the most straightforward option when the national language at the bedside was the problem. Transfer from the second year of study, 14,500 euros per year with lump-sum payment, start in October. To the Valletta location article.

University of Niš, Faculty of Medicine (Serbia)

Large state university with its own university hospital, human medicine in English, 360 ECTS, degree MD. 6,000 euros per academic year, payable quarterly. To the Niš location article.

The complete list of all numerus clausus-free options in Europe can be found in the study transfer article on Bulgaria.

How high the credit placement turns out depends on the individual case

All pathways named here are designed to enable you to achieve the highest possible credit placement through us — without or with minimal time loss. This only becomes binding after your documents are reviewed. Rule of thumb: usually at most two exams may be outstanding whose ECTS points do not exceed a certain upper limit. What is possible in your case is clarified in the free consultation.

What the transfer means financially

Azerbaijan is at 3,500 to 7,500 US dollars per academic year. Foča costs 3,500 euros, Niš 6,000 euros — the transfer is therefore usually price-neutral. The gain lies in the degree and in English-language clinical operations. Our placement fee is success-based.

Why you should seek advice as early as possible

  • Places are limited and are allocated in order of complete documentation.
  • Deadlines are running: Malta starts in October, Foča in November, Niš accepts applicants quarterly.
  • Documents require lead time. Certified translations and apostilles take longer than within the EU.

Reviewing your documents takes a few days and costs nothing. Book a free study consultation.

Author's Opinion

Azerbaijan is more transparent than other countries in the region about the language question — the fact that Azerbaijani is needed in the fourth year is stated in black and white there. Precisely for that reason, this decision should be made early and not left to chance.

Those who later want to work in Europe save themselves an additional process at the end by transferring early. A transfer is not a failure, but a location decision.

Summary

  • Transfer to Europe is possible from all four Azerbaijani universities.
  • Completed courses are creditable; we convert credits to ECTS.
  • Most common destinations: Foča (3,500 euros per year), Niš (6,000 euros), MediCampus Europeo Malta (14,500 euros).
  • Initial consultation and document review are free of charge, the placement fee is success-based.

Frequently Asked Questions About Study Transfer from Azerbaijan

From which universities do you facilitate transfers?

From all four with international medical programs in Baku and Nakhchivan.

Are my academic credits recognized?

Yes. We convert them to the ECTS system and match them against the curriculum of the target university.

I studied in Russian — is that possible?

Yes. What matters for credit recognition is the subject content and scope, not the language of instruction. At the target university, classes then continue in English.

Do I need to be deregistered first?

No. The transfer is planned while you are still enrolled.

Which year of study can I enter?

At Foča and Niš typically the second through fifth year, at Malta from the second year onward.

What does the consultation cost?

Nothing. The initial consultation and document review are free of charge.
