Why Students Transfer from Georgia to Europe

Georgian in the Clinical Phase

Instruction is in English, but at many universities Georgian language modules are a mandatory part of the curriculum, and patient contact from the third or fourth year of study takes place in Georgian. Students who find themselves unable to participate at the bedside lose learning time precisely where it matters most.

The University Was Not What Was Promised

International placement portals regularly feature Georgian institutions without a verifiably accredited MD programme. Anyone who discovers that their university is not listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools as assumed should act early.

Recognition Is Regulated

Georgia is an EU candidate country but not yet a member — the accession process is currently on hold. Until then, Georgia remains a third country, which has not been a disadvantage since the reform of March 2026: from 1 November 2026, the oral knowledge examination under Section 3 of the German Medical Licensing Act (Bundesärzteordnung) applies as the standard route to a nationwide Approbation. Where Can You Transfer from Georgia?

University of East Sarajevo, Medical Faculty Foča (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

State faculty with its own university hospital, medicine and dentistry in English, listed in ANABIN, EU-compliantly accredited until 2033. 3,500 euros per academic year, intake in November, practical year optionally completed entirely at a German teaching hospital. MediCampus Europeo, Malta

EU location with English as the official language — linguistically the most straightforward option if the local language at the bedside was the issue. Campus in Il-Furjana near Valletta, Maltese MFHEA licence. Transfer from the second year of study, 14,500 euros per year with a lump-sum payment, intake in October. To the Valletta location article.

University of Niš, Faculty of Medicine (Serbia)

Large state university with its own university hospital, medicine in English, six years, 360 ECTS, degree MD. 1,500 euros per quarter, i.e. 6,000 euros per academic year. To the Niš location article.

The Level of Credit Granted Depends on the Individual Case

All routes described here are designed to help you achieve the highest possible credit level through us — without or with minimal loss of time. However, this only becomes binding after your documents have been reviewed. As a rule of thumb: usually no more than two exams may be outstanding, and their ECTS credits may not exceed a certain threshold, for a transfer into the next higher year of study to be possible. What the Transfer Means Financially

Georgia charges 3,400 to 8,000 US dollars per academic year. Foča costs 3,500 euros and is therefore at the lower end of this range; Niš costs 6,000 euros. The advantage here lies less in price than in the degree and in the English-language clinical environment. Living costs in Foča and Niš are realistically 450 to 500 euros per month.
