All medical faculties in Slovakia at a glance

Slovakia has four medical faculties. Three of them offer an English-language programme for international students, and those are exactly the three known in German-speaking countries.

• Comenius University Bratislava, Faculty of Medicine (LF UK) — the oldest and largest faculty in the country, founded in 1919. Medicine and dentistry in English, six years, 360 ECTS. To the institution article.
• Comenius University Bratislava, Jessenius Faculty of Medicine in Martin (JLF UK) — smaller campus in the north, English-language medicine, six years.
• Pavol Jozef Šafárik University Košice, Faculty of Medicine (UPJŠ) — second-largest faculty in the country, medicine and dentistry in English, six years. To the institution article.
• Slovak Medical University Bratislava (SZU) — state university with a medical faculty, teaching primarily in Slovak and therefore barely relevant in practice for German-speaking students.

None of the three English-language faculties selects by Abitur grade. Tuition fees currently stand at around 5,250 to 5,450 EUR per semester, i.e. approximately 10,500 to 10,900 EUR per academic year — the upper end among NC-free locations in Europe.

Why transfers from Slovakia are so frequently requested

Slovak faculties have high academic standards and a dense exam schedule. This is entirely legitimate academically — but for individual students it means that, among NC-free institutions in Europe, comparatively many get stuck on an exam there. From our placement practice we know the pattern well: a subject in the second or third year becomes a bottleneck, the resit falls in the next round, and a one-semester delay turns into a lost academic year.

Anyone at this point has two options: try again at the same faculty — or take the passed credits along and continue at a university whose pace suits them better. Both can be the right choice. What matters is that the decision is made early, while a transfer is still realistic without losing time.

Transfer destinations

University of East Sarajevo, Faculty of Medicine Foča (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

One of our core institutions, for which we hold representation in German-speaking countries. State faculty with its own university hospital, medicine and dentistry in English, listed in ANABIN, EU-conformly accredited until 2033. Tuition 1,750 EUR per semester, i.e. 3,500 EUR per year. University of Niš, Faculty of Medicine (Serbia)

Large state university with its own university hospital. Medicine in English, six years, 360 ECTS, MD qualification. Plenty of clinical work, clear exam structure, predictable course of study. Tuition 1,500 EUR per quarter, i.e. 6,000 EUR per year. Worthwhile if at least three academic years still lie ahead. To the Niš institution article.

MediCampus Europeo, Malta

Campus in Il-Furjana near Valletta, medicine in English, six years, 360 ECTS, clinical section from year three. The degree "Doctor of General Medicine MD" is awarded by Trakia State University; the institution holds the Maltese MFHEA licence. English is Malta's official language, so daily life runs without a second national language. Transfer students are taken into higher academic years; the fee is 14,500 EUR per year when paid in full. How high the year placement turns out depends on the individual case

All routes described here are designed to enable the highest possible year placement through us — with no or minimal loss of time. But there is no formula here you could apply to yourself: what counts is your actual transcript, and every faculty reads one differently. That is why we deliberately publish no requirement lists or checklists.

Send us your profile instead — your transcript of records, what is still outstanding, and the countries you could imagine. We then check individually at which university, in which country, we can place you, and where we can get you in on a plan you can genuinely rely on. For transfers we always aim at the highest possible entry point; students frequently join in the final two academic years. What the transfer means financially

Slovakia, at around 10,500 to 10,900 EUR per year, sits at the upper end of NC-free institutions. Foča costs 3,500 EUR per year, Niš 6,000 EUR. Someone transferring in year three saves a considerable sum in fees over the remaining four years depending on the destination — and in Foča and Niš also on living costs, which realistically run at 450 to 500 EUR per month there. Why timely advice makes all the difference

A study transfer succeeds with the least time lost the earlier it is planned. Places in higher academic years are limited at every faculty — they only arise where one becomes free. Each target university also has its own rhythm, and the two do not always line up conveniently.
