FAQ: curriculum at Masaryk University

Do I need to speak Czech?

Not to start. All teaching is in English. You take Czech as a compulsory subject with exams at the end of years one to four, so you can talk to patients once clinical training begins.

Where does clinical training take place?

At University Hospital Brno next to the Bohunice campus and at St. Anne's University Hospital in the city centre, with around 3,000 beds in total. The faculty works with five university hospitals and 3,150 teaching beds altogether.

Is there a foundation year before Medicine?

Yes. The Foundation Programme runs from mid-October to March, 20 weeks with 25 hours a week in chemistry, biology, physics and Czech, limited to 40 students, for 200,000 CZK (about 7,900 €). E-learning courses are available from November to July for 100 € each.

How long does Dentistry take?

Five years, ending with a 15-week pre-graduation practical training and the State Doctoral Examination. The degree is MDDr.

Is the degree recognised?

The Czech Republic is an EU member state, so MUDr. and MDDr. are recognised automatically under Directive 2005/36/EC across the EU, the EEA and Switzerland. The faculty is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, which is the basis for recognition in many other countries.
