The programmes are typically split between Basic Sciences on the island and Clinical Rotations in the USA or the UK. Admission runs through application documents and interviews, not through a school grade average.

The Overall Cost

Tuition fees, flights, cost of living on an island, and expensive clinical rotations abroad add up considerably over the course of the programme. Foča, by comparison, costs 3,500 EUR per academic year.

Distance and Family

A flight home takes an entire day depending on the island. Over four or five remaining years of study, that is a real factor – especially when something happens at home.

Recognition Is Settled

Caribbean degrees are not from the EU, and are therefore treated as third-country degrees in Germany. Since the reform of March 2026, this is no longer a disadvantage: from 1 November 2026, the oral knowledge examination under § 3 of the Bundesärzteordnung applies as the standard pathway to a nationally valid Approbation. Where Can You Transfer to from the Caribbean?

University of East Sarajevo, Faculty of Medicine Foča (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

State faculty with its own university hospital, human and dental medicine in English, listed in ANABIN, EU-compliant accreditation until 2033. 3,500 EUR per academic year, intake in November, practical year optionally completed entirely at a German teaching hospital. MediCampus Europeo, Malta

EU location with English as the official language – linguistically the most straightforward option for anyone coming from an English-language programme. Campus in Il-Furjana near Valletta, Maltese MFHEA licence, transfer from the second year of study, 14,500 EUR per year with single payment, intake in October. To the Valletta location article.

University of Niš, Faculty of Medicine (Serbia)

Large state university with its own university hospital, human medicine in English, 360 ECTS, degree MD. 1,500 EUR per quarter, i.e. 6,000 EUR per academic year. To the Niš location article.

How High the Credit Assessment Falls Is Decided Case by Case

All the pathways listed here are designed to enable the highest possible credit assessment for you through us – with no or minimal loss of study time. However, this only becomes binding once your documents have been reviewed. As a rule of thumb: generally no more than two examinations may be outstanding, and their ECTS points must not exceed a certain upper limit, in order for a transfer into the next higher year of study to be possible. What the Transfer Means Financially

The Caribbean programmes, including their clinical sections, sit at the upper end of the international price range. Foča costs 3,500 EUR per academic year, Niš 6,000 EUR, Malta 14,500 EUR; living costs in Foča and Niš are realistically 450 to 500 EUR per month, and the journey home takes hours rather than an entire day. Why You Should Get Advice as Early as Possible

• Places are limited and are allocated in order of receipt of complete documents.
• Deadlines are running: Malta starts in October, Foča in November, Niš takes intake quarterly.
• The credit conversion takes preparation time. Credits, transcripts, and apostilles from overseas take longer – the earlier we start, the more reliably the entry into the next academic year can be secured.
