The city as a place to study
You can sit outside in Lefkoşa almost all year round: in January, daytime temperatures hover around 17°C, from May they climb above 25°C, and in high summer the sun shines for up to 13 hours a day. For a weekend by the sea, you don’t have to travel far – in about 25 to 30 minutes by car you can reach the beaches near Girne, such as the unspoilt Alagadi Beach with its nesting sea turtles, or one of the beach clubs along the north coast.
Ercan Airport (ECN) is only about 20 to 25 minutes by car from the city, so short journeys from arrival to accommodation are the norm. Travelling home is convenient via Istanbul, which is well connected to many international destinations. Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, and other carriers serve the route multiple times daily.
As a divided capital with a vibrant old town, narrow lanes, and many small cafés, Lefkoşa is at the same time a genuine student city. Rents are noticeably lower than in Western Europe, the cityscape is internationally shaped, and in the evenings around Ledra Street you quickly meet other students from all over the world.
