Short answer

Caribbean medical school cost 2026: tuition from 7,300 € a year at UHSA to 29,660 € per term at SGU, living costs, USMLE fees and total MD budgets.

Caribbean medical school cost in 2026 ranges from roughly 7,300 euros a year at our partner, the University of Health Sciences Antigua (UHSA), to about 29,660 euros per term at the largest schools. A complete four-year Caribbean MD, including living costs and US rotations, costs between about 110,000 and 300,000 euros.

Below you find the verified 2026-27 tuition of six Caribbean medical schools, a total-cost table, living costs per island, the costs of the clinical rotations and the USMLE fees, all in euros with US dollars in brackets. You also see how the cheapest Caribbean medical school compares with medical studies in Europe.

Marcel Kloos, federally recognised dentist and founder of Medschool Experts, reviewed the figures with the team that has placed 500+ students abroad. Last reviewed: October 2026.

How Much Does Caribbean Medical School Cost in 2026?

Caribbean medical school cost in 2026 runs from roughly 7,300 euros a year at the University of Health Sciences Antigua (UHSA) to about 29,660 euros per term at St. George's University in Grenada. A complete four-year Caribbean MD costs between about 110,000 and 300,000 euros including living costs.

The spread is wide. It is wider than in almost any other region where students go to study medicine abroad. That is good news, because it means the choice of school decides most of the budget, not the decision for the Caribbean as such. Two applicants with the same goal, the same MD title and the same route into US residency or into a European licence can end up with totals that differ by a factor of two or three.

All euro figures below are converted at about 0.86 euros per US dollar, the rate of October 2026. The schools themselves invoice in US dollars, so the euro value moves with the exchange rate. We round to the nearest ten or hundred euros, because a plan with false precision helps nobody.

Caribbean Medical School Tuition 2026 by School

Caribbean medical school tuition for 2026-27 is published by each school per semester or per term. AUC charges 20,560 euros (23,909 USD) per semester, AUA 17,490 euros (20,335 USD) per basic-science term, SGU 29,660 euros (34,488 USD) per early term, and MUA 11,825 euros (13,750 USD) for September 2026 starters.

St. George's University (SGU), Grenada29,660 € (34,488 USD) per term in terms 1 and 2, clinical terms 31,960 € (37,162 USD), plus an administrative fee of about 5,000 € (5,818 USD) per basic-science termabout 133,300 € tuition for terms 1 to 5

The basic-science phase usually takes five semesters or terms on the island. After that, the clinical phase runs in teaching hospitals, mostly in the United States. Most schools charge a different rate for clinical terms. MUA shows how much that matters: its clinical rate for September 2026 starters is 14,190 euros (16,500 USD) per term, so ten terms add up to 130,075 euros (151,250 USD) in tuition.

Caribbean schools also bill fees next to tuition. SGU, for example, adds an administrative fee of 5,818 US dollars to each basic-science term in 2026-27. Health insurance, student government fees and equipment charges appear on most invoices as well. When you compare Caribbean medical schools tuition, always compare tuition plus fees, never tuition alone.

What Is the Cheapest Caribbean Medical School in 2026?

The cheapest established Caribbean medical school in 2026 is our partner, the University of Health Sciences Antigua (UHSA) in Piccadilly, Antigua. Regular tuition is 8,500 US dollars a year, roughly 7,300 euros a year before our partner discount, and applicants who apply through Medschool Experts pay less on top.

UHSA is a compact school. Small classes, a campus on Antigua and a clear structure. One clinical year in the USA is possible. Applicants with a prior degree, or with a completed year of biology, chemistry and physics, can enter a four-year graduate-entry track, which saves a full year of tuition and a year of living costs.

Cheap does not mean basic. A student at UHSA earns a Doctor of Medicine, taught in English along the US curriculum. The difference lies in the size of the campus and in the bill. Our portrait of the University of Health Sciences Antigua (UHSA) explains the programme, the clinical year and how the partner discount through Medschool Experts lowers your tuition.

Partner discount at UHSA: applicants who come through Medschool Experts receive a substantial reduction on the regular 8,500 USD a year. The exact amount depends on your track and intake (January, May or September). We confirm it in a free consultation.

Total Cost of a Caribbean MD: Tuition, Living Costs and Exams

The total cost of a Caribbean MD in 2026 is roughly 112,600 euros at UHSA, about 215,500 euros at the Medical University of the Americas and about 296,000 euros at AUC. These planning totals include tuition, about 20 months of island living, about 24 months of US rotations, travel, insurance and the USMLE fees.

Read the table as a planning tool, not as an invoice. The island months, rotation months and extra costs are our planning values from placement work in 2026. Your own total moves with the city of your rotations, the exchange rate and your lifestyle. The tuition lines are the schools' own 2026-27 rates, converted to euros.

One line surprises families most. Living costs during US rotations are often as large as two years of tuition at UHSA. That is why the choice of rotation cities matters almost as much as the choice of school. A rotation in Chicago or Atlanta costs less in rent than one in New York.

Living Costs in the Caribbean by Island

Living costs for Caribbean medical students in 2026 range from about 900 to 1,300 euros a month in Antigua to about 1,200 to 1,700 euros a month in St. Maarten and Barbados. Rent is the largest item, followed by food, transport and electricity, which is expensive on every island.

IslandTypical schoolLiving costs per month (planning, 2026)

St. MaartenAUC1,200 to 1,700 €
BarbadosRoss1,200 to 1,700 €
USA, clinical rotationsall schools1,800 to 3,000 € depending on the city

These are planning figures for a single student in a shared or simple one-bedroom apartment near campus. Students who share a house with two or three classmates often land at the lower end. Imported groceries cost more than on the mainland, while local produce, fish and street food are good value.

A car is optional in most places. On Antigua and Grenada many students walk, share rides or use minibuses. Air conditioning drives the power bill, so ask about electricity before you sign a lease. Small things add up over 20 months. Our island guides break the costs down further, for example medical studies in Antigua, studying medicine in Grenada and studying medicine in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Caribbean Medical School Costs During Clinical Rotations

Caribbean medical school costs during clinical rotations in 2026 consist of clinical tuition plus rent near the teaching hospital in the USA, typically 1,800 to 3,000 euros a month. Rotation blocks change every few weeks, so furnished short-term rooms, travel between hospitals and visa costs belong in the budget.

The two blue phases carry most of the money, the exam and Match steps are small by comparison. Planning figures for 2026.

Clinical tuition is often higher than basic-science tuition. SGU charges 31,960 euros (37,162 USD) per clinical term in 2026-27, MUA 14,190 euros (16,500 USD) for September 2026 starters. Students who complete core rotations in one region and stay there for electives save on moving costs. Our guide to Caribbean medical school clinical rotations in the US lists the typical hospital regions.

Non-US students also pay for a visa to rotate in the United States. Plan a few hundred euros for fees and the consular appointment, plus travel. Europeans who want to work in Europe later can do part of their electives in a European hospital, which also builds language skills early.

USMLE and Licensing Fees for Caribbean Students in 2026

USMLE fees for Caribbean medical students in 2026 are 695 US dollars, about 600 euros, for Step 1 and the same for Step 2 CK. Candidates who test outside the United States and Canada pay an international test delivery surcharge of 210 US dollars for Step 1 and 235 US dollars for Step 2 CK.

Together, Step 1 and Step 2 CK cost about 1,200 euros when tested in the USA and about 1,600 euros when tested abroad. Preparation material, question banks and practice exams often cost more than the exams themselves. Most schools build a dedicated preparation period into the calendar, and some include review courses in the fees.

The residency application through ERAS comes after that. ERAS opens to applicants each June and fees rise with the number of programmes. ECFMG certification also requires its own application. Our guide to the USMLE and ECFMG certification pathway 2026 walks through each step and when it falls during the MD.

Caribbean Medical Schools Cost vs US and European Medical Schools

Caribbean medical schools cost less than most private US medical schools when you choose a school like UHSA or MUA, and they offer a four-year US-style MD with clinical years in American hospitals. In Europe, English-taught medicine at our partner university in Foča, Bosnia, costs 3,500 euros a year over six years.

Each region has its own logic. A US medical school requires a prior bachelor's degree and admission is fiercely competitive. Europe takes school leavers into a six-year programme, independent of your high school grades at many partner universities, and the tuition is low. The Caribbean combines the US curriculum with open doors, four-year speed for graduates and rotations in US hospitals.

Both routes stay open after a Caribbean MD. The decision does not have to be made before you start. Our article on the Caribbean MD and the dual pathway to the USA or Europe shows how students prepare both at the same time, and our comparison Caribbean medical school vs US medical school goes deeper into the US side.

How to Lower Caribbean Medical School Tuition in 2026

The most effective ways to lower Caribbean medical school tuition in 2026 are choosing an affordable school such as UHSA, applying through a partner agency for a tuition discount, using a graduate-entry track to skip a year, and applying for scholarships, which most Caribbean schools award at entry.

Our partner discount at UHSA is the single biggest lever. It comes on top of tuition that is already the lowest among established schools. The graduate-entry track is the second lever. A completed year of biology, chemistry and physics can be enough, and one year less means one year less tuition, rent and flights.

Financing is the third lever. Several Caribbean medical schools are approved for US federal student loans, which helps American citizens. Others offer instalment plans or work with private lenders, and students from Europe often combine savings, family support and private education loans. Our guide to financing Caribbean medical school with student loans and scholarships compares the options school by school.

A fourth lever is often overlooked. Time. Every semester that passes without a delay saves living costs. Students who plan their USMLE preparation early and keep their rotation schedule tight graduate on time, and that alone can save five figures.

What Does a Caribbean MD Cost If You Later Move to Europe?

A Caribbean MD that leads to Europe costs the same tuition as one that leads to the USA, plus German lessons up to B2 and the fees for the medical language exam and the knowledge test (Kenntnisprüfung). In 2026 these extra steps usually cost a low four-figure sum and can be prepared during the MD.

Some students decide during their studies that they want to finish in Europe. A transfer into a higher semester at one of our 25+ partner universities in Europe is possible. Medschool Experts is the world's leading expert for this kind of credit transfer and frequently achieves entry into year 4 or year 5 at top universities. The outcome depends on the individual file, so we look at yours in a free consultation.

The money side of such a switch can be attractive. A clinical year in Europe at 3,500 euros of tuition costs a fraction of a clinical year in the USA. Our guides on Caribbean medical degrees in Germany and the EU and on the study transfer from the Caribbean to Europe explain both options in detail.

The author's view

I started my own medical studies abroad in Sofia in 2015, at the age of 24. A late starter, and paying my own way. What I learned then still shapes how we advise families today: the first semester's invoice is the smallest problem. The real question is the total, across every year, every rent payment and every flight home.

When parents call us about the Caribbean, many have only seen the tuition of the largest schools and assume the whole region is out of reach. It is not. Between our partner UHSA in Antigua and the biggest campuses lies a factor of three or four in tuition, and both lead to a Doctor of Medicine. I find it remarkable how rarely that comparison is made before people decide.

My team has placed 500+ students, and the ones who did best financially had one thing in common. They planned the whole route before they started, including a second road to Europe. That is what we do in every consultation. Marcel Kloos, federally recognised dentist and founder of Medschool Experts, Bern.

Your Caribbean MD Also Leads to Europe

A Caribbean MD opens the United States through the USMLE, ECFMG certification, ERAS and the NRMP Match, and it opens Europe as well. For Germany, graduates need a German B2 certificate, the medical language exam (Fachsprachprüfung) and the knowledge test (Kenntnisprüfung), followed by the Approbation. All three steps are clearly achievable, and the language steps fit into the years of the MD.

A transfer into a higher semester at one of our 25+ partner universities in Europe is possible too. Medschool Experts plans this with you, from the German preparation plan to the recognition steps. Details are in our guide to the Caribbean medical degree in Germany and the EU.

Summary

  • Caribbean medical school tuition 2026-27 ranges from roughly 7,300 euros a year at UHSA to 29,660 euros (34,488 USD) per term at SGU.
  • AUC charges 20,560 euros (23,909 USD) per semester, Ross from about 22,200 euros, AUA 17,490 euros (20,335 USD) per basic-science term, MUA 11,825 euros (13,750 USD) for September 2026 starters.
  • A full four-year Caribbean MD costs about 112,600 euros at UHSA and up to about 296,000 euros at the largest schools, including living costs and exams.
  • Island living costs run at 900 to 1,700 euros a month, US rotations at 1,800 to 3,000 euros a month.
  • USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK cost 695 US dollars each in 2026, plus 210 or 235 US dollars when tested abroad.
  • Our partner UHSA in Antigua adds a partner discount for applicants who apply through Medschool Experts.

Conclusion

Caribbean medical school cost is first a question of school choice and second a question of planning. The same MD can cost about 110,000 euros or about 300,000 euros, and the difference lies in tuition, the island and the cities of your rotations. UHSA in Antigua shows that a Caribbean MD with clinical training in the USA can stay affordable.
