The George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology in Târgu Mureș has seven faculties and around 13,000 students. It teaches in Romanian, Hungarian and English, and its facilities include a simulation centre and a medical library. Since 2019 the university has also operated a campus in Hamburg, Germany, where the pre-clinical part of the programme can be completed.

• Medicine: The Medicine programme leads to a medical degree. The pre-clinical phase establishes the scientific foundations; the clinical phase adds patient-facing work.
• Dentistry: Dentistry is practical from the outset: phantom courses in the pre-clinical phase, then supervised patient treatment.

The programme lasts six years. The pre-clinical phase in the first two years covers anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, histology and embryology, complemented by Romanian language courses; this phase can also be completed at the university's Hamburg campus. From year three, the clinical phase follows with internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, gynaecology, neurology and psychiatry, combined with placements at the university hospital in Târgu Mureș. The final year is practical and works like a final clinical year.
