The degree is awarded by Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek and delivered jointly with AMEOS Hospital Halberstadt. The pre-clinical phase takes place in Osijek, the clinical phase from the fourth year in Halberstadt, and the final semester back in Osijek. Teaching is entirely in German. The programme lasts six years. Admission is based on the university's own selection procedure, not on your school-leaving grade.

Dean and professors

The cooperation programme with AMEOS Hospital Halberstadt runs through the Faculty of Medicine of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. Since October 2025, Prof. Dr. sc. Domagoj Drenjančević has led the faculty as Dean, elected by the faculty council for a term running until September 2028. The specialist in medical microbiology and parasitology also heads the Department of Clinical Microbiology and Hospital Infections at Osijek University Hospital (KBC Osijek) and chairs the corresponding academic department.

• Medicine: The Medicine programme leads to a medical degree. The pre-clinical phase establishes the scientific foundations; the clinical phase adds patient-facing work.

The programme lasts six years and is taught entirely in German. You complete the pre-clinical phase with anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, histology and embryology in Osijek. From the fourth year, the clinical phase takes place in Halberstadt, covering internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, gynaecology, neurology and psychiatry at AMEOS Hospital as the teaching hospital. The final year is practical and works like a full clinical internship year. You complete the final semester back in Osijek.

The tuition fee is 8,000 EUR per semester. Before making any decision, ask the International Office to confirm the amount in writing, specifying whether accommodation, insurance, and registration fees are included.

Your degree is awarded by the University of Osijek in Croatia, even though you complete the clinical phase at AMEOS Hospital Halberstadt. Croatia is a member of the European Union, so the Professional Qualifications Directive 2005/36/EC applies: the medical diploma is recognised automatically throughout the EU/EEA and in Switzerland, without an equivalence assessment or knowledge test.

You apply for your licence to practise with the competent authority of the country where you want to work. For Germany, proof of medical-level German is required — which you will already have, since the programme is taught in German. Processing times vary.
