Vilnius University was founded in 1579 and is Lithuania's largest university; its Faculty of Medicine dates back to 1781. The six-year Medicine programme comprises 360 ECTS and leads to the title Medical Doctor, Master in Health Sciences. It follows a classic structure with a pre-clinical phase, clinical semesters and a practical final year, with clinical training at hospitals in Vilnius.

• Medicine: The Medicine programme leads to a medical degree. The pre-clinical phase establishes the scientific foundations; the clinical phase adds patient-facing work.
• Dentistry: Dentistry is practical from the outset: phantom courses in the pre-clinical phase, then supervised patient treatment.

In Vilnius, Medicine takes six years and 360 ECTS, Dentistry five years. The first two years focus on the pre-clinical subjects: anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, histology and embryology. From the third year, the clinical part follows with internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, gynaecology, neurology and psychiatry, each with placements at hospitals in Vilnius. The programme concludes with a practical year that works like a full clinical internship year.

The tuition fee is Medicine 7,050 EUR per semester, Dentistry 7,500 EUR per semester. Before making any decision, ask the International Office to confirm the amount in writing, specifying whether accommodation, insurance, and registration fees are included.

Vilnius University is in Lithuania and therefore in the European Union. Its six-year Medical Doctor, Master in Health Sciences degree — as well as the five-year dental degree — is recognised automatically throughout the EU/EEA and in Switzerland under the Professional Qualifications Directive 2005/36/EC. No equivalence assessment or knowledge test is required.

In practice, you apply for your medical or dental licence with the competent authority of the country where you want to work and provide proof of professional-level proficiency in its national language. Processing times vary from country to country.
