Is Universidade Catolica Portuguesa a state-accredited university? Yes. The Integrated Master in Medicine at Catolica Medical School is accredited by the Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES), Portugal's state authority for the quality assurance and accreditation of higher education, which communicated the accreditation of the programme to the university in September 2020. A3ES is recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) as an accrediting agency (WFME recognition granted in March 2025, valid for ten years) — the basis for the ECFMG's "Recognized Accreditation Policy," under which only graduates of programmes accredited by a WFME-recognised agency are eligible for ECFMG certification and, therefore, for the USMLE. Universidade Catolica Portuguesa holds this accreditation and is authorised to award its degree on this basis.
