American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM), Sint Maarten’s official medical school accreditor, which is recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) as an accrediting agency (WFME recognition valid until August 2032) — the basis for the ECFMG’s “Recognized Accreditation Policy,” under which only graduates of programmes accredited by a WFME-recognised agency are eligible for ECFMG certification and, therefore, for the USMLE. The U.S. Department of Education’s National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA) has determined that ACCM’s standards are comparable to those used by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) to accredit medical schools in the United States. American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine holds this accreditation and is authorised to award its degree on this basis.

• Medicine (MD): The MD programme leads to the Doctor of Medicine degree. Basic sciences are completed at the Caribbean campus; clinical rotations take place at affiliated teaching hospitals in the USA. Graduates are eligible to sit the USMLE and apply for North American residency programmes.

The programme consists of a basic sciences phase at the AUC campus in Sint Maarten, followed by clinical rotations at affiliated US teaching hospitals. The curriculum prepares graduates for the USMLE Steps 1 and 2 CK, and for US residency applications.
