Accreditations of Saba University School of Medicine in the Netherlands
Is Saba University School of Medicine a state-accredited university? Yes. Saba University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO), the state authority responsible for the accreditation of higher education in the Netherlands, of which Saba forms a special municipality. NVAO is recognised by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) as an accrediting agency — the basis for the ECFMG’s “Recognized Accreditation Policy,” under which only graduates of programmes accredited by a WFME-recognised agency are eligible for ECFMG certification and, therefore, for the USMLE. The U.S. Department of Education’s National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA) has additionally determined that the accreditation standards used by the NVAO are comparable to those used by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) to accredit medical schools in the United States. Saba University School of Medicine holds this accreditation and is authorised to award its degree on this basis.
