Universidad Central del Paraguay (UCP) is a private university whose Faculty of Medicine was created by Law No. 3153 of December 2006. It offers medicine, dentistry and engineering, and teaches medicine at two campuses on the Brazilian border: Pedro Juan Caballero and Ciudad del Este.
The main medical campus in Pedro Juan Caballero has 16 soundproofed lecture rooms, laboratories for histology, microbiology and anatomy, a library and round-the-clock security. Cohorts are made up largely of Brazilian students, and the university runs student leagues and extension projects, for example in trauma care and paediatrics.
